Keith,

Very nice work, outstanding results!

I'm also working on stone chips on my Jet black E60. I was not going to attempt the wet sanding until I saw your post, now I'm not so sure.

The BMW paint chip repair kit comes with clear coat, I'm not sure when I would apply it. I would think it would be after the paint polishing to remove the sanding marks. Would I need to sand again after the clear coat is applied?

Thanks for that
I mixed the paint and the lacquer (75% paint and 25% lacquer) in a small bottle and used a art brush to touch up the stone chips, this 75:25 dilution will not affect the original colour and given the durability as well. Two things you need to be aware, the first thing is to clean the area that you going to work in (I used clay to shift all the dirts out, some people use paint thinner but i think its to abrasive so i used the clay instead), secondly, make sure the touched up surface fully dried before wet sand it.

Fianlly, make sure you get some 2000,2500,3000 grit (Or finer) sanding paper and a decent sanding backing pads.

Keith,

I didn't think of that, thanks.
Besides the clay, did you use a 'paint prep'? I think it's a solvent to remove any surface contaminants.

Hi guys,

Just wanna share what i've done recently, the car has some serious scratches and require some wet sanding to bring it back to shine. I've spent 20hrs on polishing alone but still can't get it perfect, i would say the car is now 90% corrected but some scratches are so deep and can not removed even with wet sanding! Most parts require 2 or 3 passes with Menzerna 3.02 thanks to the hard BMW paint and then followed by 106FF.
Here are the product that i used and some pictures during and after.

Wash & Clay:
Superspray
Meguiars Hyper wash
CG Citus snow foam
ShMitt
Sonus clay (Green)
Serious performance quick detailer as lube
CG Orange degreaser

Wheels:
Bilberry acidic free wheel cleaner (A lot cheaper than P21s with same performance)
Swissvaz wheel brush
Extra long wheel brush
Bottle brush for arches
Long reach brush for door sills
CG orange degreaser
Poorboy wheel sealant x2 coats
Sanding:
Meg sanding backing pad
Unigrid 2000
Unigrid 3000

Polishing:
G220 (Thinking of rotary
Lake country CCS yellow
CCS Green
Menzerna S34A
Menz 3.02
Menz 106FF
SP QD

LSP:
Dodo juice Lime prime lite (Pre-wax cleaner)
Raceglaze 55 wax (Very impressed with this wax, i would rate it over Dodo supernatural)

Car was washed 2days ago but the dirty rain (sand mixed rain) last night make it filthy again

Then clayed with sonus green (Pic shown clayed after bonnet)

Swirls & RDS everywhere

Road paint spitted on the side skirt, tar remover can't do the job so must be wet sand it

Thanks Eddie

Havent used any Zym0l wax yet, but i think unless you go with their top end waxes like concours or destiny, otherwise you will not be satisfied with their lower end waxes eg Carbon (More importantly, there are plenty of choices on the market offering better look with much lower price) eg Victoria wax, clearkote, Zaino...etc

I have been asked to do my mate's black Alfa 147 next week (if the weather allowed ), and i am going to use my favour wax Swissvax concorso, hope i can take more pics this time and post on here (As i only got 7hrs to do the job including washing,claying...etc, the car is badly swirled with few deep scratches )

To be honest, there are no much difference between the $300 wax and the $30 wax (Especially for people dont know care about cars eg my mum, girlfriend )
But if you are car nuts or amateur like me, and want to buy "ONE" decent wax at affordable/reasonable price, it must be Swissvax concorso (My opinion)

Cheers
Keith
