They key is not to let the car get too dirty. Sounds dumb I know.

not dumb at all...its true,, it just makes it easier to clean and less swirls and scratches, cuz if not taken cared of layers upon layers of dirt get caked on..this goes for all colors..ericd

Jet Black is the best. My E39 was Jet Black on Black, my SUV is Jet Black on Black...and now my E60 is Jet Black on Black. Sure, it's a pain to clean, but when it's clean, I get more stares on my car than any other on the road. It's worth it. Isn't there a saying..."once you go black, you never go back"? Hahaha! Sick, I know. Sorry.

MUST HAVES for a Black car:

1) PC Orbital polisher
2) Claybar (done at least 2x per year)
3) Some touch up paint
4) California duster

Regarding the PC Orbital, all I use is Klasse All-In-One and the Klasse sealant, and I get my car in showroom condition again. I know you can get more detailed with Swirl removers etc., but I'm happy with my 2 applications, plus it saves me a lot of time.

pretty much everything you need to know has been said.. I personally detail cars.. I keep my car top notch all the time jsut becaise I love detailing and I also show my car alot. to the person who say using quick detailer and rinsing the car.. personally I would never.. jsut due to the fact that the only way to truly wipe down a black car is when its jsut been washed.. when you wipe with QD particals are still on the surface of the car. I know the Meguires states that it "lifts" these contaminents and they wipe anyway however when you wipe those off your dragging them accross the surface of the paint thus greating swirl marks. however its obviosuly better then wiping down a dry car its still not like a fresh wash where you can jsut touch the car however you so please.. black if delicate jsut like xxterxx stated touching black after its been drivin even its jsut washed will cause swirl marks and nightmares.. Black is a fun/pain in the ass color in many ways. If you got the time to take care of it, its the best, if you don't whites the easyest color to work with. and silver..

I found the secret to looking after the finish on my Black (Saphire) 525 D SE today. I went out and Part exchanged it for a Silver 530 D Sport. The Black looks great and takes suprisingly little time to look after even in the UK with our poor weather. On the black I used 3M non silicone polish with wads of cotton wall which would get rid of all the swirl marks and then black turtle wax which I found better than all the more expensive polishes.

I suspect the silver will be easier to keep looking great. I will miss the black car because when clean it looked fantasic.
