I would replace steps #2,3 and replace them with a traditional hand wash with either a Home Depot GS (grout sponge), or a Sheepskin Wash Mitt (preferable). In a 5 gallon wash bucket, I would use 2-3 cups of Vinegar.
Thanks for the replies - it's appreciated.

Do you have a preferred brand/vendor for the sheepskin wash mitt? After a quick search, there seems to be a wide range of prices, and I imagine, quality.

I have used this one before and it is quite nice.

so i saw the Z4 i would be detailing and there's tons of tree sap over it. she took it to a carwash and they couldn't get it off for her. what would you recommend?
You will need to apply a solvent that will break it down, and remove its bond to the paint. Either apply with microfibre or with a spray bottle. Use as many applications as necessary until it removes with ease.

Examples of a solvent include Prep-Sol, Prep-All, and Duplicolour Grease & Wax Remover. You can find them at most retail locations that sell chemicals, paint or detailing products.

Well, not sure what that has to do with detailing...

But I do drive a BMW.
It had nothing to with detailing but since you joined the E60 forum I was wondering if you had an E60.
