Shampoo the carpets and ALSO !! and that is the most important part - the headliner. Have all the air intakes cleaned and disinfected. That's the only way how to recover the new car smell. Forget cabbie trees and chemicals

My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.

leatherique leather cleaner and restorer is really the only way to get your leather like the day you bought the car
I defintitely agree...leatherique is some awesome stuff, makes the leather smell and feel like new, but it is kind of a PITA to use, but worth it to me

I just bought some Little Tree New Car Scent, IMO, not even close, probably going to throw them away.

Yeah, i wouldn't think that those would smell that good. Have you tried this stuff called Ozium? It works very well at removing odors from your car, whether it be smoke or just plain stink. It's smells strong at first, but after a min it wears off and it smells like normal again.

Last year I sprayed an entire bottle of Pure Air into the cabin air intakes located beneath the cabin air filters at the back of the engine bay. I replaced the filters as well. This accomplished absolutely nothing. Waste of time and money.

About a month ago I purchased a can of Einszett Kilma Cleaner, but I haven't used it yet. Based on good reviews of it here, I will try it.

I have the BMW leather cleaner/conditioner. I've used it before. It does add a clean smell, but unfortunately it doesn't last very long (I know its main purpose is to take care of the leather). I will look into the leatherique leather cleaner and restorer even though I still have the BMW stuff.

What do I use to shampoo the carpets? I don't want to buy a $1000 car detailer machine, but I will invest some $$ for the right tool.

I took a look at the headliner, and NO WAY would I attempt that. It looks like it's so easily stainable. Plus there are electronic gizmos hiding everywhere up there.

I do not smoke and never let anyone eat in the car. I assure you there's no armagedon supply of Cheerios beneath the rear seat.

The Beano suggestion will be given some serious thought.

I don't care for adding the trees and the like. You just introduce a fake smell that masked the real problem.

I have read about air disinfectants that need to be sprayed into the recycled air vent that is supposed to located some where in the front passenger's footwell. I've looked and cannot find it.

The thing is, my car doesn't have any odor, it has a slight hint of leather smell, that's because i condition them weekly, but I really miss the new car smell.
