I was wondering how Service advisors get paid. Are they commissioned? How does it work? I have a friend who is considering being a SA for BMW. They don't have that background but lots of customer service management and also have had the BMW product for years. Anyone care to weigh in?
thanks

service advisors are ususally rated, and new ones have to work their way up. the better you get the higher you are rated. the higher you are rated the more you get paid because you can now do a 5 hour job in 4 hours allowing BMW to bring in more vehicles per day, making the dealership more money.
some service shops will pay the top teir techs per job on top of base pay, allowing them to make GREAT money. Lets say you work 8 hours, and you get an 8 hour project. you are so good, you knock it out in 4 hours, you can knock out another 8 hour job in 4 hours in one day. BMW gets to charge 16 hours for your 8 hours of "real" work and you are ultra valuable to them. by paying the top teir techs per job, it ensures that they dont knock out the 8 hour job in 4 hours and f*ck around for the rest of the day while the car is on a lift. you want to get the next ride in and double your money. and even though BMW is paying you more money and maybe "losing" more money per hour to pay you, you are making them "more" money per day

I believe you are talking about technicians, not service advisors. Service advisors are paid on commission. Good cust service + good mechanical knowledge of the BMW product + honesty = a good career. Must also consider the overall reputation of the dealership.
