2004 5 Series Price List (including Options)

This one includes both MSRP and invoice prices. One thing that sucks is 545 with SMG will have to pay $1,300 of gas guzzler tax. I don't understand why...

The better news is that SMG on 545i is a "no cost" option. That makes the $1,300 GGT less painful.

After reviewing prices, I am looking at either a 530 auto with Sports/Premium/Cold vs. a 545 with Premium/Cold. Which one would you choose? Also, do you think I will be able to get all-season tires with 18" wheels? Even if I do not get Sport package? Boy to get the 545 loaded is over $70K. May as well get the 7 series.

The price list looks kind of weird to me. For example:
  • both 545i and 545i 6-speed has the same base price of $54,300 - Shouldn't Tiptronic be more expensive than the 6-speed manual tranny?
  • SMG on 545i 6-speed is a no cost option - SMG is the same price as the regular 6-speed manual tranny, but it is offset by the $1,300 GGT.
  • On the first and second page, Sport Package (ZSP, ZSS) is not standard on 545i 6-speed - it is a $3,300 option. Is it done so just to make both 545iA and 545i 6-speed to have the same base price?
  • BUT, on the last (third) page, it says ZSP/ZSS is a $3,300 option on 525i, 530i, and 545i, but STD on 545i 6-speed.
I am confused. May be I am missing something.

They way I see it is that due to the $1300 gas guzler BMW decided to include the $1500 SMG in the sport package cost. They offset one with the other.

Regarding the 545 6spd remember you can only get the 545i 6spd with the sport package. They say it is standard not N/C. So if you want the 545i 6spd you must pay for the sport pack. If you want a 545i without sport package you are force to take the automatic. On the other models you have the option of adding and paying for it or not . Not so in the 545 6spd.

Alberto, that's what I thought as well. But in that case, the price list should say Sport Package is "required" for for 545i 6-speed. To me, "standard" implies it is included in the base price.

Another inconsistancy is that 541 Active Cruise Control requires 205 Steptronic Automatic Transmission, but you can order Active Cruise Control on a 545i 6-speed for $2,200. Anyhow, I would not spend $2,200 for Active Cruise Control. I don't use cruise control much anyway. I assume the "inactive" cruise control is still included.

One more thing. Rear-seat Entertainment Package (OREP) is not listed in this price list. On this page of hte Dealer Product Guide, it is listed at available as of 3/04.

It seems a shame that BMW makes items like leather upholstery, wood trim, garage door opener, auto dimming mirrors, and lumbar support part of their premium package when most of the lesser car manufacturers make these items standard. It's like Lexus charging for mats.
