I'm about to purchase a 530i in the US and just read a Car & Driver review of the active steering feature which is standard on the sport package. They trashed it. I take everything I read with a grain of salt, however. Any E60 owners who could comment on this feature, I would really appreciate it. I would like other aspects of the sport package, such as the bigger wheels/tires and the active roll stabalization, but the steering sounds creepy from this one review I've read.

Is there a way to get the active roll stabalization and wheels/tire upgrade without getting the active steering feature?

Recommendations????

To enjoy the full Bimmer experience, you need the SP, IMO.

If you are willing to replace expensive tires about once a year and put up with tire noise, get it. It is the only problem. Other than that, the wheels , black out trim, suspension are great. Just budget tire maintenance (alignments, new tires, etc.)

Have you driven a car with AS and one without AS? It all depenes on your taste. Some love it and some don't.

I would receommend you make your decision on what you like. I love Sport Option - but that's just me

Don't let the critics sway your opinion of Active Steering.. IME, i didn't like it at first, but after a few days of driving i got use to it and now love.. the wife loved it from day one, so now it's primarily her car

as for the sport suspension, there is a BIG difference in handling.. the e60 was a trade up from an e46 (manual w/sports pack).. for a bigger car, i was really impress by the e60's abilities.

if you still aren't sure, stop by the dealer and test drive one with and without the SP.

Model year 2006, sports package comes without active steering, which is available as a stand- alone option

Don't forget that any new 530i is a MY06 and the SP no longer comes standard with active steering.
