I was really excited that my ED car was due to the NY port less than three weeks after I dropped it off in Nice. I thought that I'd have it a week or so later. It's now closing on two weeks and my dealer tells me that it's still at the port and not even to the VPC in NJ yet. Very depressing.

I was looking on one of the other forums where members had cars on my ship and it seems that we're all in same boat (sorry for the lame pun). The holdup could be customs, especially for ED cars.

Anyone here know anything?

This sounds typical. Mine spent 13 days in customs, while other cars arriving after mine went through in 3-4 days.

They might be busy. They might be acting on some alert from Homeland Insecurity. You're at their mercy.

If it's not at the VDC yet, it is probably just customs. There is no other holdup as the place on the pier where the cars are held until they are cleared is part of the same facility and once a car is cleared it is driven from the pier along a 1.5 mile private road to the VDC (terminology has been VDC, not VPC, for several years). It could possibly have been singled out for a more in-depth inspection (happens albeit a rare occurance, maybe once or twice a year) but since others are waiting, that's probably not it..

In short, customs doesn't always show up when the VDC and custom house broker want them to.

See photos of my car in customs holding area and being driven to the VDC along the private road.

Vehicle Distribution Center. The change was intended to represent the fact that the centers do more than prep work.
