Holy Crap....I put it on Craigslist and started getting a ton of spam responses...mostly of the type "love the car, but can't find seem to get an 'insurance quote' when I go to this (link shows up here) site. Can't you please go to this site and put in your VIN and see if it works for you?". I've gotten like 6 of these already and it's been less than 12 hours! I tell ya...these spammers/scammers are really putting a damper on Internet commerce...and it seems to be getting worse every day. I guess I'm gonna try Autotrader...I hope this same thing doesn't happen with them

I sold two of my dad's trucks through Craiglist, i like it because it focuses on local people only. (I hate shipping stuff)

Really? I have some stuff on there right now and occasionally I get some spam but not that bad... Thats why I have a spam e-mail used only for stuff like this. LOL

Mid-2008, I listed my 2001 540i for sale on Cars.com. The listed price was appropriate.

Don't know if it was just a bad economic time... but I didn't get a SINGLE response! I think the ad ran for 90 days. Because the car did not sell, I got my listing fee back.

One other option that I've personally used and have not seen mentioned. Carmax. They'll give you a quote that's good for seven days. You just have to weigh whether the lesser amount you get from them is a fair trade-off for hassle of trying to sell privately. In any case the appraisal is free and only takes about half an hour. Good luck with whichever method you use.
