Okay here it is guys... There is this ad that is going around vegas that Desert Volkswagen will do 120% trade in on your vehicle towards any car on their lot.

So here it is.

My girlfriend is trying to trade in her 2004 Ford F150 FX4 Lifted truck with 51,000 miles. Fully equipped plus more.

She originally bought it for $20,000 currently owes $13,371 and they are offering to give her $19,071 towards the purchase of a car which leaves her exactly at $5700 to go towards the purchase of a car.

Well get this they have a 05 545i on the lot with 54,000 miles black on black. Blacked out windows, tail lights, OEM 166 M5 Powder Coated black Rims, Nav, Bluetooth, HUD, heated Seats, Rear Sunshades... This car has it all!

Now they are asking 29,991 For the BMW. I got them down to $28,491 + Tax and doc fees and then the $5700 towards the total which brings us to:

$25,491 What do you guys think? No warranty btw... I'm not really feeling it. I told him from the get go we would be out the door at $25,000 with 8% APR and he pestered around numbers for over an hour. Then when I'm about to leave he brings it from $26,000 to this..... $25,491... Now I'm thinking $24,500? Lol remember we have $5700 extra going towards this car from her truck equity help me out guys... This car is sweet...

yeah, I was gonna say $23K-24K was probably more ballpark on this car, but it does have high mileage & NO warranty, so beware.

First off, sounds like a sweet-ass ride. Secondly, the price you'd be getting for the Ford also sounds good. It's the BMW price that still seems high. I don't follow US prices but if you're watching the news and hearing the gloom and doom of the economy, you have to feel that the prices of luxury gas guzzlers must be under pressure.

Here's what I did when I bought mine. I asked to see all the documentation of the car and how much they paid for it and when they bought it. From that, I knew they'd had that car for three whole months. That put me in a powerful position. I knew I didn't have to worry too much that someone would sneak in and take it away from me. I also knew that despite the three different prices they'd had the car up at, they still wanted to get it out the door. They ended up selling it to me for less than they paid for it because of how the economy had gone during those three months they'd owned it. A similar 745i that I was looking at with another dealer was even worse. The dealer had bought it for 33,000 and was willing to sell it to me for 29,500. That kind of 3,500 difference normally goes the other way, in their favour.

If it were me wanting this car, I'd find out how long they've had it. I'd also say that I appreciate how much they've come down in price for me and offered a great trade-in deal, but after looking around online and seeing the prices that 2005 545s can be obtained for these days, it's still $2,000 too high. Say how sorry you are but it's still too far away from a deal price. You can even say that you're not trying to push them to go lower, you realize they've done all they can but you just can't do it. Make damn sure you give them your phone number though. You'll hear from them for sure. It might not be the whole 2,000 but I bet they'd offer you half way.

If you don't get the call (highly unlikely) you can always go back in a day or two and look at it again (but don't go looking for the salesperson). They'll come out to you and you can express how you're reconsidering or just having one last look but it's still too high.

Another good thing to do is find things you don't like about it, even if they're trivial. Make sure they don't think it's your ideal perfect car. For example, if you average 15k per year, then in 3 years it's going to have 100k on it and you can express concern about being able to re-sell it. Look at the options it doesn't have and even if you don't care about them, just talk about them and look disappointed.

Biggest concern though is a lack of warranty. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the car, but it's a concern to not have one. I only got a one-year warranty with mine but it's a BMW approved warranty and I know that I'll get an offer to extend it.

it's a fair deal on a great reliable car. I have an 05 545i, just out of warranty and it's been fine and I expect it to be so for a good while. Go buy it and enjoy. You'll never get that money on the truck so consider it made on the 545i.

Definitely do your research online about the prices...use www.nadaguides.com as the NADA is what the automobile dealers use, and dont mind the extra's like the 166 wheels, they shouldnt figure into your pricing as an extra. One mans mod, does not necessarily translate into another mans extra out of pocket costs, so if the dealer is trying to use any mods to jack up the price, tell him to kick rocks!!

+1. I would want a warranty.

Kelly Blue Book puts the retail value of a loaded 2005 545 with 54K miles in excellent condition at $28,680 and the trade in value at $22,225.

I would try to negotiate the price down to about $23K-$24K.

But I wouldn't buy a non-CPO used car because, should it break down, Flyingpuck is right about the astronomical repair costs you could be facing.

In any event, a 545 is a very nice ride.

I love my 545 but I doubt I would have got it without warranty, (Excluding mods) I've only spent $18 on the car in the last year but I've taken it to the service center quite a few times for minor things and maintenance. My only complaint was a 2 hour oil change this morning
