When I got my renewal notice from Paragon last year it went from $27/yr to about $150. I decided to lower the comprehensive on my auto policy from $500 to $250 - that cost me $60 for 3 cars! That turns out to be a better deal for me and now it's as though I've got W&T coverage on 3 cars so the possible $250 out of pocket isn't such a big deal! And comprehensive coverage applies to more than rims and rubber!

Think about that strategy now that Paragon is getting out of that coverage.
I'll have to check with my insurer, Lou. Maybe I can get a similar deal. Since April I've been "self-insured" on W&T.

That's a bummer ... our NJ roads are as lousy as our politicians - are things any better in St Louie?

If you use comprehensive coverage, the premiums will go up right.. I have AllState and I lowered the comprehensive to $0 I think. Is it best for me to claim $200+ through AllState comprehensive coverage?

I never used Insurance before, not sure how it all works.

Meh. Overall, the roads and highways are OK. More chances for damage from the construction and constant repairs. The one thing that really sucks is the interstate system. If you look at a map, you'll see that about every major interstate runs right through here. Those highways really take a pounding from all those big trucks criss-crossing the states. They get dirty and rocks get kicked up in places. Right after the winter, I do my best to avoid them if possible.

I'm sure the politicians are crooked. I don't think it's possible for it to be any other way.

I never used Insurance before, not sure how it all works.

Comprehensive is broken down into two categories: Theft and Collision

Theft is self explanatory.

Collision is what you use to file a claim for any damage to your car that is not covered by any other section of your policy. Anytime you use comprehensive-collision coverage to pay for a repair your premium is going to increase. Comprehensive is also the most expensive part of your insurance premium. You would probably save a few hundred bucks a year if you raised your deductible from $0 to $500.

Personally, I always keep my collision deductible at $1,000 and accept paying out of pocket for any damage that costs less. Then again - I no longer live in the Tri-state area.....
