OK Guys, I just got this e-mail from Paragon, with whom I had a tire/wheel policy:

I would send them a letter requesting a pro-rated refund of the premium for the canceled term of coverage. I would do it sooner than later because at some point the honey pot is going to run dry.

That sure is a bummer man. GL with getting it resolved.

Does this mean they are insolvent? You could understand them phasing out costly policies, but dumping policy-holders seems pretty drastic. Obviously, none of those customers will be back. And I was just looking at one of the extended warranties they offer....

Hope you get some kind of coverage worked out.

If anyone knows, let us in on it. I first purchased this coverage for $27.95 in February '08, and renewed at that rate just a couple of months ago. Then, in March, someone on here stated the rate had quadrupled to $110~ish. I was feeling like I'd gotten off cheap for the year, but now I have zilch. Oh great, they'll pro-rate me $20! I need coverage dammit! I'm officially paranoid.

You can try, but it's rare that it's worth your time to get $ from a state or municipality for that sort of thing.

Good luck with a claim against the municipality with bad roads. I filed two claims last year and was denied because the potholes had not been reported in advance so the road department would have adequate time to repair. My counter claim was that same section of road had been repaired (improperly) at least 6 times during the previous 12 months. The county administrator felt that was proper attention to he roads and complained about poor budgets. I filed a formal complaint of malfeasance - it has not been heard for more than a year!

I further complained in writing that if the roadway was repaired PROPERLY the FIRST time ... it would not be likely need repair 6 times in 12 months. It seemed like a waste of MY TAX DOLLARS.

The reply was "TOUGH S_IT" That's the way we handle these things... Pay your taxes and be happy with poor workmanship and Overtime out the A_ _!

It's the AMERICAN WAY -TAX AND SPEND SPEND SPEND!!

When I got my renewal notice from Paragon last year it went from $27/yr to about $150. I decided to lower the comprehensive on my auto policy from $500 to $250 - that cost me $60 for 3 cars! That turns out to be a better deal for me and now it's as though I've got W&T coverage on 3 cars so the possible $250 out of pocket isn't such a big deal! And comprehensive coverage applies to more than rims and rubber!

Think about that strategy now that Paragon is getting out of that coverage.
