Well after much deliberation with my wife on SMG non-SMG, we test-drove and ordered a 2005 545i SMG today . 354 Titanium Silver, LCAB Grey interior with ZIA Anthracite Maple interior. Here are the other options:

ZCW Cold Weather
ZPS Premium Sound
ZSP Sports Package
206 (SMG)
609 Navigation
655 Satellite Radio

Confirmed Production: 2004/9/37. I think week 37 is September 19th. I am a little bummed BMW hasn't finalized the Bluetooth option yet. I guess I will have to wait and put it in later.

I hope it will be in by November, I am going to a wedding Nov. 13th for my sister and would love to show off the new ride. The wedding is 7 hours a way in my Suburban. I am expecting 5 -1/2 in the 545, Road Trip !

In the 530 SMG I test-drove today, the shifting wasn't as bad as I expected. Not as harsh as the 2004 M3. With the sports button pushed, the shifting is much quicker than what I expected. The SMG is definitely not as smooth as the automatic, but it is a compromise since I can't get the 6-speed. (the wife can't drive a manual) My wife loved the shifting of the SMG with out the clutch. I was quite surprised by this reaction. I thought she would say the shifting was too hard. What she did like was the ability to manually shift the car and how she can control the shifting pattern.

Once the order is in the BMW system, I was told I can watch the vehicle being built and know what stage of production the car is in. For me, this is the first vehicle I have ordered from a dealer my other new cars have all been off-the-lot specials.

When I get an update, I will post again. Wish me luck ! !

I picked up my 545i SMG onb a European delivery in May. Received redelivery in The US in July. I'm now at 4500 miles and I love this car! you will not be disapointed. I felt the shifting was a bit harsh at first but once you settle in and get thefeel of the shifting it really is very smooth. It shifts quickly and I find it is smoother shifting at higher RPMs.

Good luck on your order. I hope it arrives in time for your roiad trip!

Congratulations, this is one best decisions you have ever made. When I purchased mine, my wife said that is the worst decision that I have ever made.

Thumbs up

I can still make changes in my order. I at first didn't think the $1,000.00 for the HUD was work it. I noticed most of the E60's responding have HUD. What do you think about HUD and should I reconsider?

How did you get the European Reflectors. I totally dig the clear vs. the amber color front. Did you buy them after-market?

The European reflectors, I believe are the rear red reflectors, and can be ordered through various channels. The Amber in the front headlights is a different story. You need to order the entire light assembly, and if you have the adaptive headlights, it is pretty expensive.

Welcome to the boards. I don't have a production date, but plan on Performance Center delivery on 11/19. Good choice in vehicle.
