MACO $425
TRAINING SERVICE FEE $180.00

These two charges appear right before the desitnation charge (and I was expecting that one). This is not an MSRP charge. This is listed on my dealer's invoice. I'm not happy about this extra $600.

Weird charges. Even though those charges add up to $600 extra, the price is only +$80 over the invoice price quoted on kbb.com. So I can live with it. I'm already getting this car for only $1000 over invoice.

MACO is a marketing area co-op advertising fee (usually 1% of base factory invoice). Apparently dealers in certain geographies are part of a co-op for advertising. My dealer tried to stick me with that after we negotiated a mark up over factory invoice. He said it's part of his cost...I told him then we needed to include the holdback...he backed down! The training fee is also another BS fee from my perspective (my dealer didn't even try that one on me...). Sure they need to train their sales reps--they also need to provide them with health insurance and other benefits, but I'm not including that when I negotiate a markup over factory invoice. Why don't they add utility fees and mortgage interest fees as well?!!! And a prorated share of the free coffee and doughnuts.

To be sure you have the right factory invoice numbers, have a look here:

I just bought my 06 530i a week ago. It's not push start yet. Are they going to change to "push start" in the same model year??

Push start is only on cars manufactured after September 2005 - a European definition of a 2006 model rather than the US version

It's not a "real" MY06 if it's built before September 2005 !
If built before 09/06 it's a MY05, labeled as an MY06 for strange US marketing reasons.

No matter, your dealer did pay BMW for those MACO and System & Training fees. If these fees show up in the DCS Vehicle Inquiry - Wholesale they are real. Also there is no such thing as holdback with BMW. Dealers get additional compensation based on customer satisfaction indexes, dollars they invest in their dealership infrastructure, etc. I'm not justifying these fees but they are legitimate in that the money goes to BMW, not the dealer. If the dealer was willing to give them up that's fine but everyone should understand what goes into whose pocket. The dealer isn't always trying to rip customers off.

Yeah, strange like selling more cars than your competitors because you can advertise significant improvements (e.g. the single most important component: the engine) have been made to the vehicle over the 05.

Crazy BMWNA. Bad. No. Stoppit!
