Hi Alohalc:

Cost of what they're calling the U.S. M-Aero kit is approximately $4600 retail, $3900 "dealer" cost.? Maybe true what the dealer is saying, maybe not.? I do however get treated well at my dealer so I took his word for it.? Afterall, the M-Aero kit isn't currently shown in the U.S. E60 wholesale options list so I had to take his word for it.? There was another E60 forum thread that posted some pix of another 530i with the M-Aero kit on a truck from VPC (Vehicle Performance Center).? I *believe* the VPC is located in Oxnard, California.? That's where they actually install the kit.? Good thing is that it is covered under the BMW warranty.

The U.S. M-Aero kit gets you the front end, rear end, small sport tail, and running boards.? I've heard on the E60 forum that other fellow E60 owners are buying the M-Aero kit for around $1500 and then adding another $2000 for installation and painting.? I figure for $3900 I get the same thing *AND* the BMW warranty (paint).?

Hinckley: The $3900 dealer cost does not include the M-wheels.?

I'm just a happy clam because I had mentally written off any opportunity to get the M-Aero kit here in the U.S. and then to find out that I could!? ?

Seeing all those non-US E60s with the M-Aero kit sure made me jealous!? IMHO, it makes the E60 look THOUSANDS of dollars more! ?

Cheers,
-Tony

Yeah. I know. I had my heart set on the M-Aero kit before I even knew what the price was going to be!!! I keep telling myself, "Well, at least I got it for what the dealer pays, and not marked up at the posted $4,600 price."

I can't wait to see it!!!

Congrats, but for another $4600, a 550i would seem more reasonable.

Ugh. If only you guys knew how much, and how long I struggled with "To 530i, or to 550i???".

Here's Tony's top 4 reasons for 530i vs. 550i:

1) The deal I was able to swing on the 530i vs. the 550i was so much better. The $3,900 (Not $4,600. That was the "retail" rate for the M-Aero kit) would have only made a dent on what the Bay Area Dealers were asking for the 550i.

2) I already test drove a 530i w/SMG, with the *old* 6-cylinder. I loved it! I'm looking forward to the extra HP on the new 6-cylinder. It's plenty quick for me and I don't see a chance for me to test the top end that much here in the Bay Area.

3) Gas Prices. I drive a lot of miles each year. My 1998 328i still runs great, but already has close to 170,000 miles. Getting the 530i means I can *still* supplement my Starbuck's fix.

4) Oh yeah, my 530i w/the M-Aero kit will look fast even standing still!

Who says you can't buy happiness?!?
No buyers remorse for me, folks!

I know the gas prices are at all time high. I am feeling it every time I shell out $60 for a tank of premium unleaded. However, I just made a trip to Las Vegas with our 4 cylinder Honda CRV (550 miles round trip) and it only netted 23 mpg. I would of gotten 25 mpg with my 545i instead! Lesson learned; with the tall 6th gear and no stop and go traffic, the 545i is pretty economical. Even compared to 530i, the 545i should only be like 2 mpg off under normal driving.

However, the 530i does feel more lively due to its weight and faster revving engine advantages. Congrats on your purchase. You'll have a root with the SMG.

Isn't the 550i now going to come with M aero kit as a standard? I too live in the Bay Area and I really think $3900 is very high, check this out, I bought my car at Allison BMW in Mountain View, they were going to give me the kit for $1450 and have it painted for an additional $1050 for a Total of $2500, this would have been painted and installed through the dealer. You should definitely look more into your price becasue you can save more $$ for sure

Congrats though, I just bought my 2006 1 month ago.

Peace

Hi RixMix,

The 550i is going to look *exactly* like the 545i body style. M-Aero kit is not included. I understand that my M-Aero kit is going to be installed at the VPC where the BMW paint warranty will still be in effect. Earlier adopters had their M-Aero kits installed as you described -- at the local body shop. Not sure if at that time the rear wing was included. Mine will have the rear wing as well.

Thanks though for the valuable information. It won't hurt for me to check out what's up here the cost you noted.

Cheers,
Tony
