I think your choice of equipment seems very good. I think comfort acces is a must with the new start/stop buttom. Not thinking about the mystic blue color??
Good luck

comfort seats is a must.
SMG is a driver prefference, check this board for the on going discussion. If you are willing to invest the time to train yourself, it will be great. I too have driven SMGIII and the e60 SMG and I LOVE IT!
The tit grey is a nice color.

Comfort access I am not sure I like 100% the BMW has implemented it. I got it cause of the cool factor.... but it is $$

hope this helps

PS>> SMG!

My $0.02 is: I have a Subaru with heated seats, and have gone out on some very cold days in winter, and have almost never used the heated seats.? So if you need to save a few $$ ......
I just got everything on mine EXCEPT comfort seats and cold weather package (and except the Sport Package because on the wagon it adds almost nothing). Park Distance Control is something you might want unless it's in one of the packages you mentioned.? Color is completely personal so I won't opine.

Does your Subaru have leather seats? If it does not then heated seat is not really worth it, heated seats are only good for leather seats.

Plus I have black interior and I found that when you touch the surface it leaves a white marks from your finger On my previous E39 it doesn't have that problem, don't know if they have changed the material for the interior.

Hello all.? I am a new user but have been lurking for a couple of weeks now.?

I am currently looking seriously at a new 550 but am somewhat undecided on the car setup and options.? I am thinking SMG trans since I am a long time manual transmission guy (current car is an A6 2.7T 6 speed) and am allured by the SMG.? It would allow my wife to drive the car even though she has never driven a manual before.? That plus just the pure joy of driving the SMG would be amazing.

Here is how I am preliminarily optioning it out:

Sport package
Premium sound
Cold wheather package
Active steering
Fold down seat
Nav
Sat radio
Heated front seats

Welcome, and I say yes to all above.

I am undecided on the comfort access and the color.? I have always had black cars, but might like something different for a change.? The car has to be dark (I hate light cars, sorry no offence to those light color car guys) so maybe the Monaco Blue or Titanium Gray.

Is silver gray no longer an option? If it is, then silver gray might be dark enough for you--but, maybe not. Blue = good. Red = good. I have never known anyone who has had one black car and would consider having another. ~{;^)

So, anyone want to give me an opinion here on my choices?? I won't even mention what other car I was looking at because my Audi lease is up in a few months.

I would add comfort seats unless you want to save weight. I like comfort access, but here is a place to save some money if you want. I would hesitate to get the SMG without driving it on a 550i and having someone, who knows what he or she is doing, demonstrate the various modes. In this regard, be sure that it is satisfactory in its smoothest shifting automatic mode assuming such shifting is important to you. I like the Steptronic very well. Heads up would be/is unimportant to me--so here is another place you might save some money. I have heads up on my? Z06; the only thing I ever display is MPH--which is minimally useful. But, my glasses are progressives so I can focus easily on anything. ~{;^) Maybe it's just habit, but I strongly prefer to shift looking at the dashboard tach. If saving money is not a goal, then get it all--maybe even the split rear seats. If you think you might want other BMW wheels and tires, then you might bargain for/option the wheels out up front. Many of us ditch the run flats and get other wheels (BMWs or not) and non run flats (often PS2s). There is no reason that you could not bargain for some style of BMW wheel that is not normally available at purchase and non run flats up front. I will put my original wheels and run flats back on for trips and when I move on to my next BMW. Be sure and bargain for things like tint, lojack, etc., up front.

Thanks all.

Y'all are welcome.

Welcome,

I would not opt for the SMG without driving it. I could not find one to test so I went with the 6spd.

HUD, in my opinion, is only good for the Nav info. I am so used to glancing at the speedo that I tend to look right past the speed display on the windshield.

Comfort Seats are a must, you should also check out the ventilated seat option. I wish I had it here in Maryland (HOT HUMID summers in an all black car).

My kids love the heated rear seats.

I'm a little concerned about the active steering for a long term car, if I were keeping the car longer I would prob skip for maint/reliabilty. It came as part of sport pakage
on my 545.

Sat Radio is great, hardly ever use CD/I-pod/FM.

Go look at the Mystic blue in person it is much better in person. My 03 M3 was mystic blue and it realy depends on the light as to how dark it looks. As for getting Blk again? My 97 M3 was blk 03 M3 blue and 05 545 blk.

As for comfort access, it would be nice to just get in the car and start it up without having to reach for a key, but for $2k I dunno?

Good luck and welcome

just 2 cents from Erik

Awesome info. Great reads on the SMG threads. Looks to be a ton of pros in those threads. Thanks.

I'll keep you all infomed. And yes, I do love black and seem to keep getting black cars. I just love the bad ass look of black, almost sinister. When I was at the dealership they just rolled off the carl carrier a black M5. Now talk about a bad looking car, that was it.

So the runflats get panned on this board too? Geez, I hear nothing good about those tires at all. Does the 550 come with a spare donut tire even with the runflats?

What other optional 18" BMW wheels are out there?

The 550 comes with runflats and, at least in the US, with a donut. There are some wheel options that can be ordered when the car is ordered. Check at "Build my 550i" at BMW North America. Most get 19's, not 18's. Others can speak to other wheels, but I got BMW style 101's in 19" and PS2's. Some pics are here: BMW Style 101's/PS2's. My 545i is silver gray.
