I'm just curious, what is everyone doing about a spare if you change to non RF's? I've had a puncture in my RF's and was thankful I could still drive for a couple of days...and not be stranded in the middle of nowhere...even with BMW Assist.

I had the same concern, so I got the dealer to provide a spare/jack/tools with my car so that I would have the option in the future ...

Also, if I had to get a RFT fixed, my car would still be on the road ...

The rims are different. I saw a program on the TV and the rim has a band running around the centre of the inside of the rim which supports the centre of the tyre should it have a puncture. This is made of the same material as the wheel.

So instead of this? ? U? a runflat wheel has this? UU if you get my drift.

I don't buy this for a minute. I think our rims are "normal" and will accept either runflats or conventional tires...

Did you actually drive with a punctured runflat? How did you like it?
I've done it for a few km's and I found it horrible. It sounds like your rim is getting raped by the tire and there is absolutely no handling to mention anymore.
I ordered GY F1 now and a spare.

The rims for the BMW runflats are standard rims. (If they were different there would be a marking cast in the metal indicating that runflats only are allowed.)
The tire noise will be greatly reduced by rotating the tires left to right. The noise is due to angled wear or ramping of the large tread blocks. This is normal wear pattern and gets evened out by rotation.
I switched to Pirelli Zero-Nero M+S on my 545 and they are much quieter and less jarring than the Dunlop runflats. Way better mileage too.

I imagine there would be significant liability issues if they made a rim that would only work for runflats, yet were capable of have a std tire fit...it could be assumed that many would potentially try this. I think you can fit a std tire on the 124...

That's the PAX run-flat where the hub takes the load of the flat tyre.

BMW use the tyre-only technology where stiff sidewalls take the load - the hub is standard.
