Love this forum; really helps with BMW Service
I've had a problem with my active steering for several months now (clicking noise when unlocking car, and active steering failure warning messages). I've had it looked at before, and the dealer said they couldn't duplicate the problem, etc. This time, though, I copied threads from this Forum where other people have had the same problem and BMW has told them to replace their steering rack, and it seemed to make a big difference!! After looking at my photocipied material, they contacted BMW on a PUMA case, and were told to try updating all software and if that didn't fix the problem to put in a new steering rack. Coincidence that I've gotten such good results this time now that I came armed with testamonials from this Forum?? I don't think so!
RAI,
I've been having the exact same issues. My car makes all those 'soft' click sounds when unlocking the door and frequent 'malfunctioning' active steering warning as well commandeering the idrive screen.
The dealer looked at it once, but said the same thing about not being able to duplicate the problem.

Sounds familiar, unfortunatley. Do a search on this Forum, and you'll find at least 2 threads on this issue where several persons have stated that BMW advised their dealer to replace their steering rack. That's what carried the day for me.
Regards,

[/quote]I'm curious as to how CR gets in touch with board members. Aren't most of us anonymous?

Since they're registered here, they could use PM to contact anyone here. Also, most users have the email contact feature enabled (by default) so they could choose that option if they wish...
