the mazda 6 was on the list of contenders this year. so was the honda fit and the VW passat. based on your logic, they are all automatically better then lets say, the lamborghini murcialago. you cant use those ratings.

Realy with car of the year, what do they take into consideration? I'm assuming price is very high on the list. A 5 series isn't exactly a affordable car for most of the popluation, so it would likley sell less cars than a mazda.

i am sure they take into consideration that the car has to be attainable by the general population. the 5 series is an upper middle class + car. the general population cannot afford one.
