the dealer offered me 55800 (545i MSRP) for 2006 550i and #1 spot for 550i. In addition, they will match the price of every option on 550i to that of 545i's (for instance, if 550i's navi costs $2000, my price will be 1800).

But judging from 750's $600 base price increase, I did not think this was a good deal. I gave them a deposit of $500, to see what happens since I can get it back anytime.

Do you think this was a decent deal?

Congrats on beng #1 in line. My dealer is itching to get me down by month-end to sign for 550. They tell me if I'm not there by end of July, I can't get one for Oct. prod.

Pricewise, I suspect you could do better but there's a price to pay for being first.

Actually, they had a 6-speed 545i Sport on the lot. Offered me $2600 discount for that. Wonder if I just should have bought that

Not enough of a discount. The 545's will drop more once the 550's are out. Besides, if as I hear the 550's will see moderate increase, I'd rather get a 550. Too many other goodies in there. Availability of M Sport Pak is a big one for me.

Rule #1: The word MSRP( ok, not really a word) has absolutely no place in a car negotiation. forget about MSRP. Work of of the 545I invoice pricing. You can find this info on kbb.com.

If you want to PM me exactly what you are looking for, I will figure out the invoice price for you, and tell you exactly what you should pay.

So, for getting better price sake, should I buy a 550i sometime near the end of this year? I am in no hurry, so I can definately wait a few months if it means saving a couple of thousands.

On a side note: the manager told me that their profit margin on 545 is 5200 and change. What would be a really good deal on that car (I assume paying invoice is impossible)?

I think it depends what market you're in. Some areas get larger discounts than others, it's a matter of supply and demand.

My guess is that the 550i will be a pretty hot seller if the pricing is in line with the 545i. While we don't know how much the price is going to increase, we know for certain it won't be decreasing.

Good luck with your purchase - you can be the first to post a review.

Before buying a at MSRP, you need to answer this question:

Do I need or want the car?
If you need the car, buy it.
If you don't need the car and want the car, wait until the price cools off.

Did you at least drive the car on the lot? I have yet to even see a 6-speed...my dealer told me that if I want a 6 speed I have to order it making me think I may as well order a car and get exactly what I want anyway. Also, talk to a manager or, most dealers have internet dept. now that will sell wholesale to the public...forget about trying to negotiate with a salesman on the lot.
