Just bought an 04 525i. Help on maintenence

Hello all. This is my first post here. I just got my 2004 525i a week ago. I love it. It's great, but I have one question. When you turn on you car, for the first few seconds the instrument panel will show how many miles till your next service. Well i've driven about 300 miles or so on it, and it still shows "3800 mls". Is this normal? Does this number incrument down with each mile I drive? id they forget to turn something on for the service alerts?
I also went into the i-drive and looked at when the next service was, and none of the mileage has gone down any since putting on the few hundred miles.
I bought this as a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) at a BMW dealership, so I still have my warranty. Any help is apperciated.

It's slow to update..I've seen my service mileage lower then raise. It depends on the usage of the vehicle and not directly tied to miles driven. IIRC
