How does dealership know my car needs service?

I got an email from the dealership, from which I bought my car, that my BMW contacted them requesting to be serviced.

I am wondering how this kind of communication works.

It happens through BMW assist. When a service is required your car basically sends a message to your dealer.

The BMW Assist on the car notified them when a service reminder came due, then they sent you a Email.

Kind of surprised they did not call you.

Is there any way to disable it?

Because I don't go to this dealership (too far away) or I do it myself and I also want to control my schedule for service. It's just annoying, especially after warranty is expired.

yeah, kinda creepy/orwellian when your own car calls the mothership without asking your permission first.

Call BMW assist and get the dealer changed... or get it removed.

So, when BMW Assist expires, this feature will be disabled automatically. Right?
