OK, yes I wanted a 545i too. But it's ?10K more, and so is the tax.
Maybe a 560i one day?

I never could understand buying a $60, 000+ car and worrying about how much the gas cost.? The difference between average 20mpg and 25mpg? car is roughly $300/yr at 15000 miles/yr and $2 gallon fuel.? $300/yr can only be a small fraction of your yearly car cost (payments, insurance, tires, etc.)

My Ride: 2006 BMW M5, Silverstone with black extended leather, brushed aluminium trim, Nav Pro, Logic 7, PDC, 35 % tint.
I would get the 545. I have the previous 530 manual, and while it is a fun car, sometimes I feel it needs more punch at lower RPMs. You really have to rev the engine sometimes for passing manouvers. The problem now is that there are a lot of cars with 200+ horsepower, so passing is more of a chore than it was 3 years ago when I first bought my 530, and cars were not as powerful.
I ordered the 545 in mid-October (I expect a late Dec. delivery!). On my test drive the car was amazingly fast. If you are going to spend this much on a luxury car, get the better engine.

thx guys... i think better go with 545i then... it is more fun to drive, i know.. i have tested it... many of you guys would rather choose 545 because of the value.. in the US the price is only about what? five to 6k? and get 100hp more? of course the 545... and as many of you said that the gas mileage of 545 is not as bad as the old 4.4 in 540... then yeah... 545
but it's a long time for bmw to build the car yeah? 10 weeks!! but that's okay...

Go with the 545, I did the math for the MY 545 vs. 530 with the options I wanted and the difference was $5k. With MY 05 the PDC is now standard with the 545 as was the premium package last year. The acceleration is awesome. For the UK members I know the diesel has superior torque and somewhat better milage but unlike 10 - 15 years ago diesel fuel is more expensive than gas in the USA.

My Ride: 2005 BMW 545I SMG, Black Sapphire Metallic, Anthracite Maple Wood Trim, Cold Weather Pkg, Logic 7 Pkg, Sport Pkg, BMW Nav Pkg, HUD Pkg, Gargo Liner.
If money is not a issue than 545I with manual or SMG
I test drove both cars a 530I with manual and a 545I with smg
driving the 530I with manual was fun but moving almost 4k in weight with only 225hp not very fun after 30mins, the 545i with smg was so much fun to drive. very powerful and lots of torque. smg is new to me its like learning manual again so much fun
