HELP ME DECIDE: 545 OR 530??
#21
So cal here too, I have a 545 sport and wouldn't trade it for the world. I was looking at a 530 until I drove the 545, If your even considering the 530 DON"T DRIVE THE 545..... lol , it will sway you!!! besides the difference in value at 4 or 5 years makes up the difference in cost. So I kinda figure you get to drive the 545 for free
Gas milage I get about 27 highway, and 14-17 city, but then I drive with my foot in it most of the time.

I read somewhere that the 530i holds its value better than the 545i.

I went with the 530i and options for 7,000 I saved on the cost of the car allthough I love my car I regrett not going with the 545 after all I just spent 5000 on new wheels and tires, I would of rather had the engine instead

My Ride: BMW 545iA Black Sapphire
Model Year: 2005
Engine: 545i
Although I'm not indifferent to gas prices, my 545i is about 15% more expensive
at the pump compared to my old E46 328i. No biggie, considering the performance,
cruise ease and sheer pleasure of this engine. The best piece of machinery on this
car!!
If fuel efficiency is your top priority the new 6 cyl. 3.0 next year is no doubt a jewel. Nice performance and outstanding gas consumption.
Still.........you only live once. Therefore.......545i.

you USA guys are really in to your "biggest is best" I have been driving BMW for 15 years in the UK, all 5's 525, 528 530 and the 530 is the best of the lot you do not need the big V8 the E60 straight 6 is a super engine with more than enough power and as sweet as a nut. The balance is right and if you have the sports suspension and sports seats but avoid the 18" wheels ( too low profile and ride is too hard) the handling is terrific. Fuel consumption (now starting to be an issue in the US) is 0n average mixed driving 28 mile to the imp gallon
go for it
