The price is always negotiable!! Usually, at least in the US, the MSRP is about $5000 over invoice/wholesale price, which means the dealer makes $5000 off your sale.

I recently ordered a 2006 530xi, came into my dealer with all the current invoice numbers, told them I wanted to pay $1500 over invoice (rather than $5000 over!!!!) After a long disappearance by the sales guy (during which time he was probably having coffee trying to make me think it was a really tough deliberation), they gave the car to me for that price. I am kinda disappointed, I should have asked for the car for less!!

I think you have more bargaining power when:
1. you custom order a car
2. you come in with all the invoice numbers

Most people have no clue what the dealership actually pays for the car, that's why the dealership can "rip them off".

Kudos to the forum for giving me the power of knowledge!!!

Yep, definitely go in with a print-out of the invoice pricing. But dont show them until they start the BS...and yes  the BS will start sooner or later. Come on, they are in sales you know.

I made an appointment with the internet sales "manager". The first thing I asked him was what was the 2006 pricing for the 550...he started on this path of : "Oh, BMW hasnt released that info yet"..thats when I pulled out all the pricing sheets I got from this forum (BTW, this forum rocks! )...I kinda surprised him, but from that point on, he knew he couldnt bull-sh*t me....long story short...I got my 530 for about $1500 over invoice, plus ordered exactly what options I wanted (also, I didnt want a car off the lot...cause during my test drive I rode the car pretty hard...like most ppl do).

Ok, too little sleep, not enough coffee..too early for work! I hope this helps...laters....

I did not get a fixed price. The first dealer I went to said 2% was the ost off that they could give. The next dealer gave me 4.5% off from the start and after some weak complainig I got 5% and some more on my trade. Bought the car there.

The AAA has a good "no haggle" program with certain dealers - at least in the Northeast - where you call and mention AAA and I got the best price of three dealers I tried in the New York City area. I went to the nearest dealer (and got list and a shrug) and talked to two others by phone including the one for the AAA discount. It's worth a shot. Their web site should tell you what local dealers they have (assuming they have any in CA). Good luck!

well each model is different and the options affect the price, but on the 650i, the dealer markup starts at 6,500 so theres room to negotiate if they are willing too...unfortunatly here in NYC, they go for a premium if not MSRP and the wait is very long... good luck
