FEVER .. newbie .. 530D (E60) .. one week to go
Bought an Approved Used E60 530D (late 2003 production, 31k miles) last Saturday, splashing out on my birthday. I am in the UK.
Waiting for the DVLA to change my old personalised numberplate over to the new car.
Spent the week reading every post on the E60 Forum. Every post on any other forum I could find. Downloaded the dealer PDF manual. Put pics on my PC desktop as wallpaper.
And still seven days to go ...
I am strung out beyond belief waiting! lol .. To say I'm looking forward to getting my new 5 Series would be a considerable understatement ...
QUESTION
*********
- late 2003 production E60 530D
- *** anything in particular I should look out for as a potential prob? ***
- standard 530D (non run flat 16" wheels), with extras: Bluetooth prep, Bi-Xenon lamps, Dakota Beige leather, 6-speed Auto Steptronic, Dark Poplar, Titanium Silver metallic
Delighted to be a new Member of E60.net, thanks for all your generous advice. Great message board!
Andy
PS: here it is. Yes, I KNOW the wheels are relatively uncool, but give me time .. I've just shelled out a wad of cash for it and I'll get around to the alloys soon, okay?

It's there but I just can't drive it yet

Like a sad bugger I took a couple of pictures

And now I think I've gone off sex.

I have a colleague with an E60, same age as the one you mentioned.
He had a lot of problems, mostly software related plus a blown turbo.
He was very close to selling it. I told him to have a readup on the forum and got some hope.
Turbo was changed and he had 16.3 installed 3 weeks ago. He reckons it's a different car now and is very happy. It was just a matter of sorting it out. I think his dealer wasn't the most helpful around, which accentuated his anxiety I guess.
Anyway, just make sure you get v17 on your car. Software 16.2 onwards apparently has solved a lot of popular problems.
Congrats and good luck.

Andy545 .. thanks fellow Andy
Good advice.
I'm going to ask the dealer what version s/ware it's running, and try for an upgrade. In its first 31k miles - according to the service history - it's had no major problems and should have been thoroughly run-in by now. Should be working at max efficiency now, particularly on the economy front.
Posted a couple of pics while you were replying. They are my current substitute for porn. Cheers again: A UK

Sounds good then.
Hey Andy,
Well done, you will love the car. Yes there will be some niggles but overall you will look forward to driving the car every day.
I drove the latest 3 series with new 3.0i engine and was even more convinced that I made the right choice with my 530D.
Maybe its cheating having the Scnitzer ECU, but then you could do that too!!
Enjoy.

Just beware....E60's are an addiction.....I've NEVER bought the same model twice but that was until I bought my 530d.....its just so so good........now with a bit of extra dosh about, I fancied a sportscar....looked at loads but now awaiting my M5.....as I say, the E60 is an addictive car!

Hehe, welcome on board. Good choice on the car. You've missed a nice little meet a while ago on the bottom of the A10.
Make sure you get a software upgrade to 16.2 at least.

Well done Andy,
The 530d is one hell of a car with an awesome kick in the pants acceleration.
Coming from a 528i to the 530d was an unforgettable experience.
Please let us know your findings with the car. Did your initial footdown experience sell the car to you? It did me.

Merv the Derv:
Yes the initial foot down on the 530D test drive totally sold it!
I had the sales guy in the back and my girlfriend in the front passenger seat. So far, so stately, then we came to a roundabout which led into an industrial estate with a clear 500 yards straight road ahead.
I nudged the autobox left into Sport mode and FLOORED it ...
My God, it was like when I had my old Subaru Impreza Turbo: my girlfriend burst out laughing (her anti-diesel prejudice having vanished in that 3-second explosion of acceleration) and the sales guy flew back into the seat. I swear there was clear air between his bum and the leather. He muttered something like Oh Christ, but I'm sure it was something he'd had happen 100 times before ...
All he had to do was take the top off his pen when we got back to the showroom.
The 530D is a true beast, if you want to show off. Fantastic! Of course, I'm getting it for the economy ... (ahem)
