My car is going to end its warranty this year and was wondering how much it costs to purchase the extended warranty and do you have to do it before a certain point or just before the original warranty expires?

As Dram pointed out, you need to buy it before the original warranty expires and you should also note that the price for it is generally negotiable. Always safe to counteroffer about $500 or more lower and when they refuse you try to split the difference.

Would you negotiate through different dealers? I assume that once you purchase a warranty, it can be used at any dealer?

What the time and miles typical for the extended warranty?

Yes, you can negotiate through two different dealers and I believe they have a couple of options the longest of which will add two more years and/or 50K more miles of warranty, whichever comes first. I believe I read that you can add one year / 25K miles, but I am not sure that option is really available.

You would negotiate at different dealers because you would be offered different prices from different dealers or even different salesmen from different dealers would give you different prices. The warranty is another sales item and the dealers are trying to make a profit. Also, I read somewhere that extended WARRANTY is about 3.5k for only 2 years or 50k miles. the extended maintenance is at lowest 1700.

Hmm.. the extended warranty for 2 years doesn't seem like much. Do you if there's anything specific about the powertrain warranty? (Engine, transmission)

Just make sure you don't let your current warranty lapse while you make your decision or it becomes more expensive!
