I just purchased a CPO 07 530i with 49,950 miles and CPO warranty to expire exactly 3 yrs from now. I plan on driving the car ~6k mi/yr. Based on my projected usage, car will need Inspection II and new rear brake pad before CPO warranty expiration.

Dealer offered me extended maintenance plan for $2,250. Dealer explains that Inspection II will run me $1,750 and brake pad for $650, so those two alone will make the plan worthwhile.

My questions are:

1. Is $1,750 for inspection II on E60 reasonable? Sounds a little excessive to me.
2. Can brake work (e.g. pad, flush) and coolant flush be performed by independent without voiding CPO warranty?
3. Anyone quoted or purchased extended maintenance plan for less?

BTW, I am in the MD/DC area.

Thanks in advance.

There is no Inspection II anymore. Maintenance intervals are all dictated by the I-drive. Also, CPO warranty is for 2 yrs or 100K. Since your regular warranty will terminate at 50000 miles, I'm womdering how you will have 3 years of coverage.

A number of people have purchased extended maintenance. General consensus is that it's not worth it...but search the forum and then decide. lots of discussion about these topics...

My vehicle has a service date of 7/06, so the CPO warranty will expire 7/12 or 100K. Given my expected usage I will not hit 100K before my CPO warranty expires on 6/12. I hope I am not wrong about this, but I believe that's how the CPO warranty work.

I could be wrong but since reg warranty is 4 yrs or 50K, I would think you will only have 2 yrs...but...since it will be hard for them to establish when you went over 50K, perhaps they go by in-service date. Maybe someone else will chime in. I've never been completely clear on that myself.

For CPO warranty work, the dealer would only care about the 6yr/100k miles limit.

Also, the OP's CPO warranty ends on July 2012 which is about 3 years from now. That's what he meant regarding the 3 years of coverage, not adding 3 years after the original warranty.
