I have purchased Extended Maintenance on every BMW that I have owned and it paid for it self. I paid 1195 for my EM and if you break that down over the two extra years it was worth it. Excluding my 545, The past X5 and 540, both had full break jobs including rotters, 2-3 oil changes, series II and other Misc (break fluid and coolant). If you paid cash it would have cost more than the EM that i purchased. ALSO... I purchased extended warranty so I wanted to make sure that IF something happened to the car I can say that BMW did all the work on the car.

Any advice on this for owners in the Netherlands? I didn't buy my '03 car from a BMW dealer but would love to take out an extended warranty/maintenance plan..

My friend has an 04 545i he bought a few months ago that came w/ EM and EW. He just had his inspection II and the dealer told him it would cost over $1400 if he didn't have EM. That right there tells me its worth it. I've got an 05 545i CPO and I'll be getting the EM thru twinkidneygrill when its time. The dealer I bought my CPO thru quoted me $2100 for EM.

Thanks, guys. My car currently has 37000 miles, and I put about 22K/yr, which put me to about 80K at the end of EM. Most of you are suggesting getting the EM. I think it is a no brainer now... Thanks!!!

Hi guys:
My current free maintenance on 04 545i expires end of June. Yesterday, I took my car to the dealer for vehicle check, and had them change the engine oil, all fluid, all brake pads. Should I still buy the extended maintenance? Any advise is greatly appreciated.

I would go for it

Cool

Hi guys:
Thanks for all your comments. I went with Rodney and bought the extended maintenance for $1595. My dealer quoted me 1695+tax and is not willing to match the 1595 price. I sent Rodney the key reader via email last night, and is waiting for him to update my plan.

A couple of months ago, when I bot my CPO '05 545i from the local DMW dealer, he matched Rodney's price for the EM.

i think if you're going to go to the dealer for all the service, then yeah the EM makes sense.

however, with the ability to program the service screen yourself so far i've saved a lot of money.

bmw wanted $450 for my rear brake pads...i did it myself for $100
oil change they wanted $120...i had the local shell do it for $60
brake flush was performed by a mechanic for $120 while bmw wanted double that.

spark plugs i can imagine saving a ton of money on as well when that comes up. but i found brakes and oil changes to be the most common service, but also the biggest waste of money. plus, everything else like filters and wiper blades can be easily done yourself, saving you tons of money.

but you didn't buy a bmw 5 series because you were cheap, so if it's not important to you saving the money, then i'd get the EM.

But considering that I put about 20K miles a year on my car, I think the EM is well worth the price. Plus I get to drive cool loaner cars~
