If so how much am i looking to pay?

Thanks

well i would take it to a representable mechanic who knows what he's doing...doesnt neccessarily have to be a BMW dealer...its even a DIY project.... very simple to bolts removing the caliper and the pads are clipped right onto the caliper...so once you take those bolts out wiggle the caliper a bit until it comes off...very simple... but you have to change the sensors aswell or else the the i drive light will not clear.

+1 Do not go to the dealer. They charge an arm and leg her in the US - around $12-1400 for the job. Either go to a respected independent mech or DIY it. Both will save you quite a bit of $$$$

I think I can reset the light by doing this

Is this the case?

yes...that is exactly how you reset the light, but once the idrive light comes on indicating that you need brakes...what happens is the computer shorts out the brake pad sensor and therefore you cannot reset the light until you replace the brake pad sensor itself...after replacing the sensor..that is when you follow those instructions noted to reset the light... i came across that problem as well and the the computer didnt let me reset the light until the sensor was changed. try resetting before changing the sensor. if it doesnt reset than you need the sensor..
good luck

Then get a new brake pad sensor for the front and a new one for the rear. Then reset the I drive.

OOPS it looks like you need new brake pads, too. Sorry I only read the quote above and should have read your original question. Here in the US, I got brake pads for all four wheels for around $90 and a friend helped me change the pads - quite easy really. You only need 1 new sensor for the front and one for the back. They are around $25 each here and they are "plug and play".

Wow, that's pretty neat. Thanks for posting this. I wonder if this works to reset the inspection sticker date, too?
