Mine is a co. car so I leased. $64745. list and $852 a month plus tax for 12,000 miles with no security or up front $, it was the only option.

All "calculations" aside, leasing is a rip-off. Just pay for it, or get something else. Or just rent a car from Avis.

That's total bullshit. With the ridiculously low lease rates on the 05 545's leasing was a good deal, plus everyone's circumstances are different. What works for you may not for someone else.

Leasing in Texas is just.... well... not wise. :-)
I'm buying all my cars. I don't think I will keep it for a long time, will get an M-something in a few years. I'm keeping my Z though.

If you have "circumstances," then perhaps you should consider buying a cheaper car. And that type of economics is never "bullshit."

Circumstances like what? "I really want the car, but can't really afford it?" If so, that's cool. Lease it. I've done it before. Then I took a bath, and I'm not doing it again. If you live for the present, or if you're independently wealthy, lease everything. Doesn't matter to me. Just my two cents. Flame on, but you know I'm right.

Hi Evenflow:

It's good to hear you.

Assuming I understanding what your are saying, why are you so convinced that leasing can never be optimal at least for an individual? I did calculations well beyond what the standard lease calculators do and found that leasing was better for be by a worthwhile and undisputable difference--even without the benefit of tax deductibility.

Consider tax deductibility, plus the sales tax position, plus residual value protection on depreciating assets - good examples being the MY06's that are about to become 07's after two or three months. Rational arguments can be made in support of pretty much any means to acquire a car - what is right, and the validity of the economic arguments, is specific to each individual. At the end of the day leasing or buying can amount to pretty much the same thing. So no, you're not right - except in your own specific "circumstances". And that's not "bullshit".
