That is EXACTLY WHY I look my car over VERY closely as soon as they hand me the keys! they will usually look at me like I'm crazy while I do this, but I could not care less! because if I bring my car back with a complaint like that, they'll be tap dancing so fast trying to convince me that it DIDN'T happen while in their possession, they'll probably pull a muscle!!!

My dealer SA actually does a walk-around and checks any and all imperfections when a car is brought into the shop. They give me the form and I sign off. Same happens when the car is returned. And, bimmerluuvr is 100% right on ... take 10 minutes to inspect before you drive away ... not one or two days later.

Agreed...I do the same...although I am a little less obvious. I feel very comfortable with my current dealer though and know they wouldnt hassle me.

I make it quite obvious to them that I am looking for damage so that they will know right away that there is a problem. I also check my odometer for excess mileage. My logic is simple: If I find something wrong in their presence, there will be very little room for denial on their part.

I couldn't agree more.......... I took my car in to fix a slow leak in a tire when I picked it up I inspected the whole car and found they chipped the rim slightly , no denying it ! They profusely apologized ! I'm going to take just the wheel and tire in to get it fixed. I've seen too much service shop carnage to trust them now ! Good luck

The first BMW stealership I used always had an attendant on duty when you dropped the car off and he marked all of the damage on your paper...fool proof method. They should all probably do that.

Funny you should mention rim damage, check THIS out: when I ordered my car in '05, I asked the dealer for winter tires instead of the summer set the sport packaged cars come with, well... when the car was delivered and I picked it up, I noticed some of the paint had been scratched around the rim portion of one of the wheels. I was kind of shocked since I didn't think that any new car dealer (let alone BMW) would deliver a car to a customer in that condition. So I checked out the other wheels and low-n-behold, two others were damaged the same way! . I stood there in disbelief for a second before going back in to complain. My salesman gave me no problems about addressing the problem. He offered to repair the damage as it was minor, and if the repair was not satisfactory, I will get a new set. The repair was excellent! I can't even see where the damage was! but it just goes to show you, Unless you are buying a ROLLS, we should expect that not too many dealers are going to handle our cars very carefully.

My dealership actually photograghs your car when you first bring it in, something they just started doing.
