xBMWx, it's not a deep scratch. It's one of those where you see it when the light hits it a certain way. Like the kind you get when the wash mitt is full of sand and grit
[/quote]

Sorry to hear about your problems. It sounds like the scratches are in the clear coat and can be buffed out. I've had some similar, but probably deeper scratches, on my car from our cat (hood, roof, decklid) a couple of times that I buffed out with an orbital buffer with no trace.

BTW, does your dealer wash the cars by hand or in a wash rack? I've finally decided to forego the offer for a free wash because I'm paranoid that this will happen. Good luck.

Yeah, you run a risk every time... the main reason I didn't do ED or PD.

My worst horror story - my last car, a Jetta was at Carmax being appraised. It was raining, and they used one of those rubber squeegy dryers to take the water off and see the condition of the paint. Problem was, it scraped all the dirt along my car (it was black) creating hundreds of microscratches in the clearcoat. It was insane. Carmax was good about it, and had a detailer spend about 6 hours on it getting them out, but it was pretty ridiculous that it happened in the first place.

My 530i was washed on delivery by the dealer (no mishaps), a week later the professionals installing the clearbra washed it (no mishaps), and then last April when I had it inspected. I didn't know they were going to wash it at inspection, but since it was a Ferarri dealership doing the inspection and washing - nothing bad happened. Generally, I'd never let anything but my own hands wash my car.

jcatral14,

Same thing happened to me this month when my car was in for (more) warranty stuff. The dealership asked if I would like the car washed and valeted. Foolishly I agreed as the car was pretty dirty. When I eventually got the car back (with half of the work not done of course, but that's another story) there were some small scratches in the paint. How can I prove it was them though? As it happens, the scratches aren't serious and will come out with a bit of elbow grease, but that isn't the point is it? As a side point, they hadn't valeted the inside either - I have a black dog and beige carpets, and dog hair is something that you notice!!

I wouldn't consider myself fussy, but I still don't even let my own kids (aged 15 and 18) wash my car. Anyone else as sad as me??

Thanks for your replies. I went to get my plates yesterday and mentioned it to my CA. She said to just bring it in one day and they'll "detail" it and buff the scratches out. I don't know if I want to take her up on the offer <_< If all else, maybe I'll just do it myself. You know the saying, "If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself."

Well I picked up my car last Saturday and I have to say, this car is a dream to drive. I almost (note: I said "almost" lol) look forward to the drive to work in the morning. Anyway, before I picked my car up, my CA had the car washed and fueled up for me (I did ED). When I picked it up, immediately I noticed a very fine scratch but because I was excited as hell I decided to pass on it. I figured that was the only one. WRONG. This evening I noticed more scratches on my trunk. Damnit. I'm gonna point it out to her tomnorrow. I should have known to tell them not to wash the car. Same deal with my other car. Dealer washed it and they scratched the hood. I hope it buffs out. This pisses me off.
How many of you guys or gals have your car washed by the dealership? Me? That's it. They're not washing my cars anymore. I'd rather pay $20-30 and have it done at a professional detailing place.
lol mate go back and make them repair it for free 20 bucks not bad for me was 200? by prof detailer...

Trunk scratches are often caused by the odd friends who insist on grabbing the trunk by the paint to close it. Those people should be glad I am their friends, is all I can say about it...
