Hi!
No, I guess rock chips could hurt the lens if you are unlucky... It is fitted in the spoiler and it is the same size and shape as the fog lights which also are mounted in the spoiler. I never had any broken fog lights so i guess the chances of breaking the camera are quite small but you never know... If you want i can take some pictures of the installation so you can see how she ... (sorry i mean it of course.. ) is mounted?
Regarding retrofitting i honestly cannot say anything. My technical skills are - to say the least - small... You will have to ask someone else about that i?m afraid.

Here are some pics of how it looks in the front spoiler, and one picture of how it looks during the day in the screen, just to give you an idea of how it looks. I haven?t got any pictures of the camera/wife running at night yet, but i will add that a.s.a.p.

Take care!

Wow thanks for posting those pics. The first ones I have seen on the nightvision camera mounting. I am having the aero kit installed at the VPC and I was curious if they thought of adapting the Bumper for the night vision camera. The cam is way larger than I had expected.

Supposedly my car is out of the paint shop today and into assembly tomorrow.

Hello,
I was a bit surprised when i read this thread.. It seems you guys cannot get night vision on your cars? My new car (e60 535d) was delivered to me (in sweden) april 5 with night vision. It was built in march, week 11.

Regards
Lunne
Interesting, even on the 07 E60 brochure on the BMW site, nightvision was listed as delayed. I wonder how many they produced for the european market. I know the issue was a sourcing delay from Siemans the vendor who supplies the parts.

Is this really thermal imaging - can it be souped up to see through walls or detect heat sources etc...

If it could see through walls it would be totally 'Knight Rider' I always wanted a Knight Industries Two Thousand

Just reading some stuff about US authorities using thermal imaging to detect cannabis farms peoples homes and beaching their fourth amendment rights.

Big brother is watching you ....

With all the computers in my home I've always expected a knock on the door asking why there is so much of a power draw and heat in my basement. I even had the electrician question me when I asked that he run some dedicated 20A circuits.

I thought the BMW night vision was more of a hybrid system rather than thermal imaging.

Yes, it is. That why I had made the comment. I see they have , in fact adapted it. Now, I hope they supply the revised aero bumpers for nightvision at the NJ VPC.
