For those who replaced clutch/flywheel, how many miles you have when you need to replace clutch?
I am surprised to see so many people replace clutch.

Dump the clutch repeatedly (burnouts or racing) or drive in city traffic alot and it would wear out much sooner.

I dropped my car to Bay Diagnostic (Brooklyn) on Friday, they called me back just now telling me the clutch has to be replaced and that to fix it they would order the clutch assembly. They said parts/labor will be $1182.00 I just want you guys thoughts/opinions on if I'm being over charged or if the price is fair...whether the entire clutch assembly is necessart etc etc
P.S I had a post prior about driving the car and while downshifting the clutch staying on the floor... so this is the aftermath

Hi guys.
Speaking of clutch problems, my BMW dealer called me the other day and told me that my clutch is slipping. I bought my car used from carmax more than a year ago and I don't feel the difference. The dealer told me that I don't change my clutch (about $1400 with tax and labor) now, I will have to change the clutch and flywheel when things goes bad...
I would like to ask you guys if you know how to get a good clutch for fair price. I've been spending too much money on architectural supplies and I really hate to pay $1400 at the moment...
Please, guys help me out

Find a stretch of road that goes uphill.
Accelerate to normal rpm speed in 4th gear before the car gets to the uphill grade.
When your car starts going uphill, floor the accelerator - if the clutch is slipping you'll feel it.
Take your car to a good indy shop and get an estimate. You probably get a cheaper estimate $1400, but you are still gonna pay a good amount of cash.
Remember this when you are paying for your repair - you are the proud owner of a BMW! (j/k) hope it works out cheaper for you.
