I have a 545is with 13,000 miles. Tires are making the standard racket. BMW said they will pay 50% for new tires. Now my choice. The Bridgestones have a UTW (universal tread wear) rating of 140 verses the Dunlops UTW of 280. Since my car drives unbelievable around a corner with the Dunlops I don't think the softer compound of the Bridgestone will benefit me much more. Solely because of the rating of 140 v. 280 I would go with the Dunlops again. But it won't help if the longer lasting Dunlops start making noise again. Did they change the Dunlops design since we all have been having problems with them or are they the same tire design prone to noise after 10K miles? Any opinions?

Supposedly, Dunlop made a change but nobody has put enough miles on them to confirm if the change made a difference.

From your questions, I'm guessing that you might not have kept up with everyone's experiences with the swap. Many of us were able to get BMW to kick the credit to 100% for new Dunlops after first getting the standard 50% offer. Since you're leaning toward the Dunlops again, it wouldn't hurt to push the dealer (take some printouts of some of the other runflat replacement threads with you to show them what BMW will do if pushed) and see if you can get 100%.

Hope that helps you out...

BMW replaced mine 100% with Bridgestones (at 10,000 miles). Told them that I didn't want the Dunlops again. So far, I have over 4000 miles with replacement Bridgestone and no noise or degredation in handling. So far, so good.

My dealer's replacing mine 100% at 14,000 miles. At first, they said they'd get me Dunlops at 50%, but after some complaining, they agreed to hook me up 100% with Bridgestones. I would argue for 100% if I were in your shoes.

Thanks for your postings. I complained to the dealer who checked with the head service guy. They said their is nothing that they can do since they already contacted BMW through a PUMA case and 50% was their response. They gave me BMW Customer service number 1-800-831-1117 to see what they would do for me. Any suggestions before I call?

I think the PUMA case is where everyone is getting the 50% offer. I think the other 50% comes from the dealer asking their regional BMW rep.

Since you have "proof" that so many of us here have had a 100% replacement, I'd be interested in what BMW NA has to say about that when you call them...

I spoke to the Cust Service rep and really had no luck. He said that BMW does not have a policy of replacing 100% of the tire costs and said that the few that did receive that does not set policy. He said he would call the service manager at my dealership but my options are dwindling.
Side note Tire Rack has four Bridgestone RE050A tires instock for $872.47 including a $100 Bridgestone rebate. That includes shipping. My dealer wants me to pay my 50% (which equates to two tires) which is $817.00 of which their total cost is $1634.00.
