My Ride: In the process of buying the right 2006 530i
BMW is giving Incentives ranging from $1800 to $3500 to Dealers to sell 5 Series Cars starting Jan 2, 2006.

The Bottom Line is no matter how you slice it, A Dealer is now getting an extra $1800 for each 5 Series the Dealership sells. It is irrelevant what the Dealer does with the $1800. The fact that the Dealer gets an additional $1800 means that with every sale there is $1800 more to offset some area of the Expense Sheet. So, whatever price you thought you were going to get from a Dealer, you should at least get another $1000 to $1500 knocked off, it still allows the Dealer to keep $300 to $800 of the BMW Incentive.

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.

I believe that's eurpoe only (notice the amounts are in euros), not US (where the E60 sales are fine).

Munich. BMW dealers will get bonuses of up to 3,000 euros, or about $3,600 at current exchange rates, if they can find customers for the slow-selling 5 series. Bonuses of up to 1,500 euros, or about $1,800, will be given for other BMW models.
The bonuses only will be given for sales contracts that take effect starting Jan. 1.
The details of company's incentives program for the first half of 2006 are outlined in a document obtained by Automobilwoche.
Under the program, the dealership gets the following bonuses for selling the 5 series:
3,000 euros, or about $3,600, when the customer trades in an Audi or Mercedes-Benz
2,000 euros, or about $2,400, when the customer trades in a used 5 series
1,500 euros, or about $1,800, when the customer trades in a non-BMW vehicle (except for an Audi or Mercedes)
1,500 euros, or about $1,800, for a conquest sale without a trade in.
The dealer will make the following bonuses for selling other BMW models:
750 euros, or about $900, for a 3 series
1,000 euros, or about $1,200, for a Z4
1,500 euros, or about $1,800, for an X5.
Dealer Burkhard Weller, head of the Weller Group of Berlin, was not familiar with BMW's plans, but he said he would not pass the bonuses onto the customers but instead use the money to invest in customer retention programs and advertising.
By late November, BMW already had surpassed its sales for all of 2004, selling 1.21 million vehicles, an increase of 10.8 percent.

That makes sens why I got quite good trade in for my 525i. I think the total rebate was 10% plus $3000 extra on my old car. 
A little strange that the Swedish delaers at the same time have a upcoming price increase of 1-2% on all BMW cars built from 2006-04-01. (Can be the stupid Swedish Sek currency that made this increase.)

Am I the only one thinking that this is really sad news ?
BMW as a brand has been degraded substantially over the years simply because they are selling too many cars. In London at least every third car seems to be a BMW these days....In London it's not longer prestigious to own a BMW.
Now you can readily get 10% off BMW cars (something unheard of a few years ago) and now we have this additional rebate. They are really getting desperate these days and are soon going to turn themselves into Germany's Toyota....
