You might want to talk to United BMW in Roswell, particularly Ed Barnes. Ed was the only SA in town that truly went to the necessary lengths to solve a radio problem I had in my 2002 330cic. For that alone, he is my go-to service advisor.

I will say that even with someone like Ed, it does help to go in armed with knowledge about your problem. For that, this forum is a god-send. I just saw Ed last week for regular service and mentioned about the TSB for Dunlop runflats. I am not sure if he would have automatically checked for that problem had I not mentioned it, but either way, he took care of it (yes, I got 4 new tires). Good luck.

I just heard from Nalley BMW in Atlanta re: software upgrade and mp3 compatibility with my 1/05 545i. As usual they are completely clueless. The SA mentioned no knowledge of any "software upgrades" for my car--I have had none since delivery. I mentioned "bird's eye view" navigation etc and he told me that it was a new DVD that I needed to purchase!! RE: mp3 he told me that they would be happy to install aux input to play my ipod (!), after I explained him that this was not what I was interested in. After much arguing over the phone, he told me that he will look into it?? Are you guys out in Atlanta having similar experiences with them? What is the most knowledgeable dealer in the Atlanta metro area? Too bad for Nalley as I will go elsewhere for the purchase of my 750iL in a couple of months. Thanks for the site--it completely rocks!
I had the same experience as you with 2 dealers in Atlanta, so I walked in with the MP3 document from this forum and had the SA read it. He then took the document to the techs and found one that had done the procedure. I am happy to say that I had MP3 retrofitted yesterday and I am very happy to have MP3 playback capability. David Stanley at Hank Aaron assisted me.

Check the previous posts. The check engine light issue will get you updated to the latest CIP.

You won't be able to upgrade your software to play MP3's. Your build date must be 3/05 or later.
My previous 530D E60 (05/2003) with Business Nav, after a software update done in Dec/2005 got MP3 capability (CD or DVD).

You won't be able to upgrade your software to play MP3's. Your build date must be 3/05 or later. On the other hand, your CIP is likely to be pre 19.xx.xx. And, Progman 20.02.00 now is out in the US. I think 20.02.00 is the right number. I have 20.01.00. 20.01.00 gave my 4/05 build 545i MP3 capability--the first CIP/Progman update to do so.
Others here have MP3 retrofit as far back as MY 3/04

I picked up the car today and have MP3!! I owe it to this forum and the pdf files gently sent to me. I can tell much better steering w/ version 20.01 and navigation much improved as well. I dealt w/ Nalley BMW and the SA that helped me was John Campbell. He should be able to help other people out there with "older" e60's. Have you guys burned mp3's on a DVD and played it in the DVD drive? How many songs can you fit this way? Once again thanks a bunch for all your help. I belong to other forums (Porsche, VW, Fiat) and this one is by far the best one of them all.

Znod (or Iceman, or Cobradav): Any ideas what is going on here. I am seeing conflicting information where you, Iceman and Cobradav are saying (as it indicates on the TS that mp3 is not capable on pre 03/05 cars. But a lot of people have confirmed that it works on their pre March 05 cars.

So which is it?? Can someone please explain the discrepency??

I think all the people reporting that it does work with pre March 2005 are outside U.S. not sure though.

The SA admitted his self-admitted "stupidity and ignorance" (hey he said it, not me!!) and claimed that he was new working at BMW (previously at VW). Although I accepted his apology, there is no excuse to put up with this when you are supposedly dealing with a "luxury" car. I am in my early 30s and have figured out that it really doesn't matter--I have had similar problems with other so-called "luxury/performance" cars such as Porsche and Land Rover. It is unfortunate that we as consumers have to put up with this, but at least our cars are a blast to drive hard !!
