I just heard from Nalley BMW in Atlanta re: software upgrade and mp3 compatibility with my 1/05 545i. As usual they are completely clueless. The SA mentioned no knowledge of any "software upgrades" for my car--I have had none since delivery. I mentioned "bird's eye view" navigation etc and he told me that it was a new DVD that I needed to purchase!! RE: mp3 he told me that they would be happy to install aux input to play my ipod (!), after I explained him that this was not what I was interested in. After much arguing over the phone, he told me that he will look into it?? Are you guys out in Atlanta having similar experiences with them? What is the most knowledgeable dealer in the Atlanta metro area? Too bad for Nalley as I will go elsewhere for the purchase of my 750iL in a couple of months. Thanks for the site--it completely rocks!

WOW are they really that dumb? You should gather BMW documents from this site print it out and ask them... they either think you're a complete fool or they really need to go watch their "round table" videos they get each month.

Yes every month they get a Vid Called the Round table that they are suppose to watch and learn whats new.

Tell them you're not dumb... I can believe a dealer would be THAT clueless!

You won't be able to upgrade your software to play MP3's. Your build date must be 3/05 or later. On the other hand, your CIP is likely to be pre 19.xx.xx. And, Progman 20.02.00 now is out in the US. I think 20.02.00 is the right number. I have 20.01.00. 20.01.00 gave my 4/05 build 545i MP3 capability--the first CIP/Progman update to do so.

You are very welcome. I can't remember seeing a PDF. Cobradav posted a very useful list before, but I can't find it now. Sorry for such a long post, but here is part of the list--covering CIP 18.00.00 through Progman 20.00.00.

"SI B 61 14 03
General Electrical Systems January 2006
Technical Service

This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.I. B61 14 03 dated December 2005.

designates changes to this revision

SUBJECT

MODEL
E60, E61 (5 Series)

E63, E64 (6 Series)

SITUATION
Customer may complain of the following:

The following software errors were corrected with the release of Progman 20.01.00 (Target data Status E060-05-12-510).

While driving, the SMG control module switches to emergency program. SMG Fault Code 5101 (Hex) "Analyze hydraulic sensor" is stored. (E60 M5 only) Refer to SI B23 01 06.

Check Engine Light is on, DME FC "2F4F vehicle speed plausibility" (N62TU only).

The following software errors were corrected with the release of Progman 20.00.00 (Target data Status E060-05-12-500).

Poor Idle quality after a cold start. N62TU engine.

Engine juddering/idle speed surging when it is cold. N52 engine.

Engine pinging under light load. N62TU engine.

After programming the CID (Central Information Display) using Progman V19.x, the CID is blank and fault "A469 Internal Electronics Failure" is stored. Progman 20.00.00 prevents this programming failure. If the fault already exists the CID needs to be replaced.

The following software errors were corrected with the release of CIP 19.02.03 (Target data Status E060-05-09-535).

No software corrections included in this version of CIP"
