I agree, no one here has one that has been delivered. What kills me is my dealer has some DME's and the VPC doesn't.
My dealer told me that they had only 11 delivered units affected. It would seem that they are in a better position and definitley more motivated to make the repair.

I ordered my 545 in late May and it landed in New York on 7/31. I was contacted on Saturday from the dealer stating that they had received the vehicle ? and I plan to pick it up late tomorrow (pictures to be posted of course.) According to another thread on this board (http://forums.e60.net/index.php?show...1746&hl=recall) my car was not affected in this recall, since my VIN number is not in the ranges listed. What is interesting however is that my VIN is actually within 20 digits (increase) over the 545ia range ? and thus must have been produced after the recall (and continuing with the thought that BMW is continuing to produce new cars before fixing all recalled vehicles.) One question though ? does that mean I have a 545iA? What is the difference ? or are VIN?s not sequential for their models?

Thanks
Jon

You have the 545iA if you have the automatic transmission

What was the build date? That is what BMW NA was going by when they were looking at the recall. I ordered my June 11th, but the build date was June 28th. Yours must have been made after July 6th, although that seems like a long time to wait, May to July. It could depend on what production slot the dealer had. Apparently they had one for my car that they could change and get me produced sooner, lucky me.

Ahh--- thanks for the clarification on the A! Didn?t want to think about driving a manual in Manhattan ? or even on the LIE!

Re: The production date. Is this something I can tell from the OC site? Or is this something I need to locate on the car itself when I take delivery tomorrow?

Re: Time frames for the order. The actual order and deposit was left on 5/26 and received my production number on 6/4. I guess they had used all of their slots?

I should move to Boston.

I ordered mine April 15, and was told June build, July delivery. Then the dealer claimed they got no 545 June builds, for which I have been somewhat suspicious. Then I was told early July build, early August delivery. It finally got built around July 1, and arrived at the VPC July 21. And now the recall fiasco.

jzerden, the production date is stamped inside the driver side door frame, near the recommended tire pressure chart. Mine simply says Jan 2004, with no date. I've seen others quote exact dates that theirs was built or born, don't know if they get that kind of detail from dealer or what.

kscarroll, when I posted the JPEG of my VIN plate last week, I got a personal email from a BMW employee telling me that the car was finished on March 08, 2004. I had always thought it was March 05, 2004. This person just volunteered the information to me.

So, I guess we are not alone . . .

JDN, that's pretty nice of that person to e-mail you the info. But how did you get the March 5, 2004 date by the way? My car just has the Jan 2004 stamped in the door frame, no date.

Wonder if that employee could mail me a DME unit for my car.
