My car says I need to get this done... I'll call tomorrow and see how much they will charge for it.
DIY. It one of the easiest parts to replace. Search the forum for the DIY.

This is the easiest DIY you could ever do on any car IMO. Don't waste any money apart from buying the filters

I would love to know why its so much....I would like to see the SA explain this to me in person...You could only imagine the bs they would tell you to justify the cost...
Service writers at Autohaus in St. Louis told me to purchase the filters and install them myself. I believe this is a great example of why Autohaus is such a highly regarded dealership.

This is it, I'm now going to aspire - not to being an attorney, nor a surgeon, nor a politician - I want to be a BMW dealership owner. With this kind of mark-ups (400 for 30 in parts and maybe 20 in labor), I'll be a gazillionaire in two days of actual work!!!

WHAT A BUNCH OF SLIMEBAGS, man!!!

BMW North Scottsdale in Arizona told me about the same price.
they also tried charging me $210 for an oil change
and $278 for a brake fluid flush.

I ended up doing it all myself with some help from the DIY things on here for about $100

rip-off man. my cousin with an e46 before spent more than $700 at the dealer for oil change and rear brakes, and got mad when I reminded her that we can do it. when we did her next oil change and front brakes together (and front is typically more expensive than the rear) it was about half of what she paid at the dealer.

Keep in mind 99% of BMW owners aren't really enthusiasts. They just want to get in/out quickly and pay the premiums to get it gone by someone they trust - the BMW dealership.
Owners assume just because they own an expensive vehicle, the servicing should be expensive.

Sad but true, they make A LOT of money just from servicing.
