I like your thoughts.
You like the look, but don't need the power.
Don't hestitate with your choice.
I am getting a new 550i, and I am mixed about getting all of the extra power that I don't need with only 15 mpg.
That is a lot of fuel to waste in this type of world.
It will look really nice, and if you don't care about power, you are making a great choice and saving some money.

Appreciate all the feedback. 528 it is... I know it's the right choice. Big question now is what will BMWFS do with rates. Anyone know if the 0.9% that's offered on current '09s is good for the early '10s rolling in? Worth a call I guess... Also, while at the dealer last week I saw an Audi rebate sheet on my CA's desk that indicated that current A6's (all models) are apparently getting $3,000 allowance through May 31st (purchase only I think). Wonder if we'll see any incentives other than ZVP on the '10 5er's in June/July.

get the 535i, best of both worlds...
it's worth the extra money (which isn't that much if you break it down monthly, even daily)

Let me just say that.. when I first leased my 2007 525i I was worried of lack of power.. When I first took delivery of the car, I was more excited that I got a very nice car.
At first power seemed fine but after driving it for 3 years.. I wanted more. Now I regret not getting the 530i for 5K more.
My lease is coming to an end next month and I just placed an order on a 535i.

I was just on the general site in another topic.
I saw someone's car description as 535i in Carbon Black with M package (de-baged). The car was recently delivered.
That would be a "poser" as the individual is trying to make people think that he/she has a 550i by debadging it.
As many here know, Carbon Black only comes in the 535i with M package. Thus, it is a unique color to the 535i.
If someone simply wants to get the 528 or 535 because they have a personal preference, that is absolutely ok (and it should be promoted because everyone should get the body style that they like). But trying to hide the model is probably taking a step too far.

it is less poser-ish then putting LCI tailights on your Pre-LCI, but that is hardly poser-ish in itself.

There are all kinds of long threads on this issue. Multiple view, and I respect them all.
I guess when one tries to make their car look like another type of car with mods, and then debadges it to try to make people think that it is a different model, it seems a little suspicious.
Debadging because you don't like the badge is another thing.
Everyone has a different motive.
The original question was whether someone was a "poser" for ordering a 2010 528 with M package. Absolutely not. The look of the M package is great.
If someone tries to make the outside world believe that the car is really a 550i, well, that seems like "posing" to me.
It doesn't mean that the "posing" police should be unleashed. It is just like wearing a fake watch with a fake major brand. Some people honestly don't care. Others do.
It doesn't bother me, but I would not do it myself. At the end of the day, "I" know that my car is really not what I am making others believe it is.
