First timer here folks - been watching the board for a week, and I guess it's time to crawl out on the limb and post a message!

Last week I joined the "Club" and purchased a 2006 530i off a two year lease (smoking deal). Of course I now have the expected trepedations of purchasing a USED car with only a CARFAX report as my security blanket. SO - on to my question. Now that I want to take the car into a shop for a 36k mile checkup, what questions do I need to ask the service dept? I DO NOT want to go to the only BMW dealership in town (Salt Lake City), so I need to be able to ask educated questions (or red flags to look for) before I put my new baby in someone elses care. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Proud parent,

DDD

"Do you use lubrication before insertion?"
"Are you going to draw eyes and whiskers on my trousers after you rabbit-ear my pockets?"

For one time I think it would be wise to go to the local dealer and have your new baby carefully looked over. Developing a relationship with them can only be positive. Whatever you decide to do regarding maintenance after that, is totally up to you, but they know e60s better than anyone and you just might find out something interesting in the process. I realize there will be a few extra bucks involved, however, I feel the long run you will find it money well spent.
BTW, your vehicle should still be under full warranty and doing work somewhere else might put that in jeopardy.

Isn't it still under the full warranty/free service? Assuming yes why wouldn't you want to take it to the dealer? It will be free.

Agreed. It is still under 4 year/50k miles bumper to bumper warranty.
Most everything is covered.
Take it to the dealer and have it checked out.

+3 or so ...

It sounds like this your first BMW?

You should have a (local) BMW dealer pull the service records on your new purchase. Even if you purchased it from another dealership, the BMW Maintenance Program and Warranty follows the car. A reputable BMW dealer will not charge for this as it will have to be done to ensure all program updates and services are completed. Your dealer can also retrieve the build profile, indicating what features and options are installed.

Good luck with your New-to-you BMW!

PS ... if you don't have an owner's manual head to the Forum Info section and download one. http://www.e60.net/information/2006_..._Manual_US.pdf
