This is certainly true - but there are swings and roundabouts.
I wanted to avoid the big depreciation hit in yr 1. In the end I bought a car just short of 2 years old.
Original price was probably circa ?39K - I paid ?24K. If I run it for 3 years it's end up worth about ?7k as a trade in.
I make that a loss of ?15K in the 20 months or so and then ?7K a year loss thereafter - so depreciation is actually fairly flat.
I am worried though about the warranty expiring ....

With modern car electronics nowadays, i'd be too scared to own a car out of warranty, that's one of the major reasons i sold my RS6 when she was 30months old. Too expensive a worrying to own out of warranty so i know for sure i'll be selling my 535D in no more than 2 years time, just in time for my newly ordered beast to be delivered

yep - thats what i'm worried about - especially as the electronics in the e60 are (how shall I say it) a bit 'temperamental'.
I've never owned or even heard of a car as reliant on computers & software as the current E60. You'd need a phd in Auto Electronics just to service the car.

You sould wait until the new 3.0L engine is available in the 535D' twin turbo version (all aluminium block, new injection, ...) as now in the new 530D !

Doesn't seem to be turning up in a hurry! Good news in a way because it's saving me from spending a huge lump of cash!
