What is the service/maintenance schedule for a 530d manual in the UK, and how does it work?

Is it simply whenever the Idrive determines it's due?

If so, presumably the Idrive takes into account distance, number of cold starts, journey lengths etc?
Also the passing of time? (so a low mileage owner doing just 1000 miles per year may have Idrive decide after, say, 3 years taht a service due)?

Does this cover just oil changes - or does the Idrive also make decisions like "ok, it's now time to change the hydraulic fluid as 3 yrs have elapsed since new/last change"?

Anyone hazard a guess as to what my service/maintence requirements over 5 years is likely to be given my profile of use? - and likely cost? (UK, London area):
500 journeys of 3 miles from cold start (->1500 miles)
100 journeys of 10 miles from cold start (->1000 miles)
50 journeys of 20 miles from cold start (->1000 miles)
20 journeys of 50 miles from cold start (->1000 miles)
10 journeys of 150 miles from cold start (->1500 miles)
2 journeys of 1500 miles from cold start (->3000 miles)
Total 9000 miles per annum

Well, I don't know for sure, but going on past BMW ownership, you will probably only need a service roughly every 18 months or so. On my previous car (E39 525d) it needed a major service at 55000 miles (3.5 yrs) and that cost me ?550 pounds, but the regular servicing was much less than that - appx ?250 to ?300.

Someone else may have kept more accurate records - and of course a lot depends on how you drive. If you drive quite steadily your brake pads and tyres will last much longer. Drive like a madman and you'll burn through tyres and pads. :-)

If you're looking at cost of ownership over 5 years, I guess the servicing is not negligible, but for sure depreciation is the real killer - though years 4 and 5 are almost free since you take most of the hit in years 1-3. Just a thought if you're buying new, did you consider service inclusive? Finally, don't forget to factor in the cost of renewing the BMW warranty for years 4 and 5 - I think it was about ?600 per year for my E39 - in which case that's probably going to be more than your servicing costs (excluding tyres).

Warranty renewal in the UK is now ?900ish for the 5 series (and includes various exclusions if mileage is above 60k), oh and now excesses are payable upon each claim

As per i drive.
But there are dates as well as mileage so you will normally get oil chnage after a year if you are low mileage.

Brake Fluid change is 2 years after build, not 1st registration.

Several websites have information on this too, e.g. What Car? who give 530D SE servicing cost over 3 yrs as ?1,505

Hope that helps...

My 530d was serviced just before I took delivery.

The service indicator on i-drive is showing next service due in 37,000miles.

Surely this can't be right ????

My 320cd managed about 25K miles between services, which I thought was pretty stunning (i'll be doing about 30K miles a year)

19,000 miles, less an amount depending on how you drive.

What's interesting though, is that according to iDrive, I will need a service fro front pads soon (2-3 months), then rear a month later, then inspection in an other 2 months. etc, etc.

Seems that BMW are keen to get you in on a regular basis. Maybe I'll just get the lot done in about 6 months

I ran my 530d for 18months covering 19,500 miles with a good mix of m'way and round town. Only had one service at around 18,500 miles so the 19k at start is pretty accurate
