MSRP on a new one (215 hp) with those options is around 42k.? ? Spend the extra cash.? It won't make that much difference, payment wise, in the long run.

MSRP on a 2006 without the cd changer is $47,970 and invoice is $44,332.

Yes I understand that but I don't want to live for a car payment. I don't want to lease ether. Also w/a brand new car they will not have any deals and doubt that I would get anywhere near an invoice price would I???? Last thing, I understand that you guys say this is a bad deal, but just a question I'm seeing 04's with the same options for the lowest 40K and they have 16'inc rimms and are not new think lowest had 8,000 miles but w/xneons and it was I tink $41,000...

So what is the price of a new one?

One post states $42K and the other $47K.

If it's the latter, then $38K is almost 20% off of MSRP.

For a used it is a little high price. you have to understand when that car was traded in to them they probably gave the person 33k for the car.

I Ordered a 2006 525i w/ Navigation, HUD, Xenon, Premium pkg, Nasca Leather, and Ventilated seats. I got this all ordered for $700 over invoice. My final Price was $47,200 w/destination.

Peace

Like I said, that's about 20% off of MSRP. How much cheaper could it be expected to be? I know if I was selling it, I wouldn't want to lose more than 20% in the first year.

MSRP 46k, invoice 42k. Edmunds says that this car used with 8k miles should be between 33k and 39k. But to me the high end of this range, 38k, sounds unreasonable for a car that's just been replaced by one with a bigger engine, especially since the old engine was almost universally considered to be very underpowered. This car is in no way, shape, or form a good deal at this price.

I didn't say it was a good price, I'm just pointing out the fact that it's nearly 20% off of MSRP for less than one year of ownership and 8K miles.

I could of swore I read that the expected depreciation for the 5 series was only 50% over 5 years. So you could only expect to lose about 30% of your investment over the next 4 years.

I'd also consider that this is buying from a dealership where a car from a private individual should be slightly lower.

In US these days it's hard to gauge used car values because everything is being discounted so much from new sales. In the past, getting a few thousand off a German car was unheard of, but now people have come to expect much more.

I'm guessing since the invoice price of $42K was mentioned you can expect to get a new one for invoice or less now?

Just my 2 cents..

I thought of that too, but it was just to small for me... Don't get me wrong I loved the E90 330i, I drove it and it was GREAT, but I was kind of hitting my left leg on something on the door, getting out of the car was a little tight, and I tried sitting in the back and same thing tuff to get in and out. Also I really didn't want to take that HUGE hit on getting a new car, rolling off the lot losing all that money.. Look at that 2005 525i, someone paid around or over $47K for the car now I'm getting it less than a year old for around $38K. The guy bought it 11/04 and 6 months later it's 9k less????

Also I know you guys know your stuff (If I didn't think that I wouldn't be asking you guys) but I know you guys keep saying it's a bad deal, but how come I keep seeing 2004's with the same options and a little more miles for $40k, now a car a year newer, bigger rims, bluetooth oh and a cd changer (plus I think the color was more money but I know this has nothing to do now w/the USED price) for 2k less? I hate to keep asking that, and I'm sorry if I'm repeating, but can someone please help me understand that???? I also understand that the new E60 w/bigger motor is right around the corner which might/should drove the price of the smaller motor's and/or move some older cars to make room for the newer models, but would it affect it that much???

The new 525 with the bigger engine is not 'right around the corner', it is on showroom floors as we speak.

In my point of view, the E60 is a performance sedan, not a luxury sedan. If you want luxury, top-notch materials, and unbeatable quality, there are other makes that are better suited, such as Lexus. Buying an E60 with an underpowered engine is robbing yourself of the primary reason to own a BMW (I would classify not getting the sport package in this category also).
