With all this talk of the newer V8 being introduced into the 5 Series Lineup, do any of you gurus on this board think a good price for the 2005 545i could be easy to get from a dealership? I would assume since they would want to dump the inventory of the so called *old* cars. Any input would be great!

welcome aboard, siriusinvestor ! it's always easier to get better price on a current year model in that year especially it's almost the middle of '05. i can guarantee you can even get a better deal if you go grab a '05 in july/august if the dealers still have some in the lot. they need to make rooms for '06 .

Welcome Siriusinvestor. I would wait for the new model if I were you. There'll definitely be more goodies installed in the car.

In the past Ive considered a "last years model" when car shopping. In 2004, when shopping at a Mercedes dealership, they had a left-over 2003 that was of some interest to me. This year, when shopping for a 545i, one local dealership (not the same where I'd shopped for the Mercedes) had a FULLY loaded 2004 still on the lot. Neither time was I able to 'steal' a car at a great price. Neither dealer was interested in selling below invoice, or even negotiating extensively, and was more interested in moving a current model year car.

I don't know, but I suspect that the incentives the dealers (sales associate, sales manager, general manager, etc) get for moving current model year cars far outweigh any incentive to clear the lot of the one-off older model. If they know you want to buy a car, they seem much more interested in selling a current model year.

As to whether to wait for 2006, it certainly will be much tougher to get a "great price" on a 2006 when they are first released. The pipeline to the dealerships is a limiting factor, and they don't like to let their limited allocation go for low profit early in the model year. That's why a 2005 now thru the summer will be a better price.

Thats waht I did. The dealer had one last alocation to be built. I jumped on it 24 hours before they had to finalize the car. I got it for ~ invoice.
Of course, I bought an "old" car.

Shoppping in the bay area this past month and looking at the boards, the 2005 545is are going for about 2-3% over dealer cost-- I would bet the 2006s will go for maybe $1000 under MSRP at best for the first 3-6 months after they come out. 545s are not produced in nearly the same volume as the 530s.
