Turbo you have been around here for long enough-how do you not know that 17-18 for an 04 530 with no sport package is worth 13-14 at the most. Did "your friend" even look at what they are going for?
Nobody is going to touch an 8 year old bottom line e60 with no signifigant options such as sport package.

a couple days ago, you complain about people being cheap for not spending $52 for bmw brake fluid(which is way overpriced by dealer prices), yet you are being real cheap when it comes to car prices.
as for the car, it'd be hard to find one that is a one owner, low miles, easily driven, and winter stored. and 17 is the asking price. owner is in no rush to sell.
Your analogies are just so sad that it gets irritating. Paying too much for aproduct is not the same for paying more for the correct product over another second rate brand because its cheaper.
The better analogy is buying the SAME coolant from one dealer, over another, for 50 dollars more. Why would you pay more for the same product? Just like this car. Why pay so much for a product you can get as good for cheaper.
You have turned out to be much slower than I had thought and I realize arguing with you is pointless as you just do not grasp basics

The manual transmission is a great match for the free reving engine in a 530. And (not a small matter) the manual transmission is nearly trouble-free compared to BMW automatic transmissions. That said, if your driving style and requirements make an automatic a better match I think (based on my personal experience) the 6cyl BMWs are less prone to failure than in V-8 models. Lastly, independent of the posts quibbling over value/price, I think the OP's car looks like a clean low-mileage example that makes good sense for someone who wants to drive an e60 (even w/o Sport) and not dig into their deeper pockets and spend $40-$50K+.
