What would you have got if you hadn't settled on the e60?

Just curious as to what the forum members considered before settling on the e60.
I'm interested to see what the real alternatives are.

OtherBMW/ Sports = E46 M3. When i bought the car, as it was configured, i could have gotten the E46 M3 SMG Competition Package.
Seems that might be the next move anyway in the future, 3 years or so.(E90)

My Ride: 2013 535i (White with Oyster Interior. Premium Package, Navigation, Technology Pacakge, Park Distance Control, and Rear View Camera)
My first choice was CLS500, but I can't afford to spend $75000 on a car yet, if I am single maybe I'll suck it up.
My second choice was 545i, I am so glad I didn't buy it (545i is a great car ), but I didn't know 550i is coming in 3 months after I purchased my 530i. If I bought a 545i, I'll be so upset.
530i is perfect for me. Great power, and much better gas mileage than the top 2.
Last choice was MB E-class, it's $8000 cheaper than e60. I really like this car also, no matter what you guys say, E class is very nice looking. Unfortunately the handling is no comparision to e60. All my perious cars are couples, handling is still important to me.
