also, check out the attached pic of this white porsche. if anyone says that a 545 looks better than this (regardless of what the 545 has), they are very loyal to bmw because I would take that porsche over 2 e60s.

The simple facts are that a Porsche Carrera is without doubt a better drivers car than any current BMW.
I have owned many cars including an E46 M3 and a 530D which have been superb but they just dont compare to the driving experience of a Carrrera. But then again it aint really fair comparing these brands.
At the end of the day BMW does a fantastic balance of driver involvement with everyday use, so good in fact i pick up my 535D sport touring tomorrow and it makes me think do i really need my 997 ?

Have to disagree (depending on what you mean by "best"). The Enzo and Maclaren (which is not in production anymore) will own the Porsche GT on a track. Off the track, I've always leaned towards the Vanquish (actually driven one and hands down, it's the ultimate compromise between performance and luxury).

...from all i've read/seen, the Porsche GT ownes the Enzo, (as well as looks much better, imho) but cant speak on the Mclaren's performance, but I dont consider that a true production car.... now i hear ya on the Vanquish in terms of overall lux, but we're not speaking of luxury here, only sheer performance and imho, the GT is the best ever made (but still love the 959!!!!)

Hey the 997 911 is a fantastic car and I wouldn't argue that it's more of a pure sport car than any 5 series has ever been. I never met a 5 series buyer that was expecting a pure sports car experience when they bought their car.
I have a 2005 Porsche 987S bought in February...every morning when I walk out in to the garage to get ready for the morning commute I can choose b/w it and the 545i. Guess which one I pick 90% of the time? 545i.
The 987S is a blast on weekends etc....but for daily driving I'll take the 545i with it's great blend of sport and luxury, satellite radio, bluetooth handsfree that didn't cost me a fortune ala Porsche's PCM package etc...etc....etc...
I love Porsches.....just came from ebay where I was looking at 993's, but you really can't compare Porsche and BMW...two completely different vehicles for completely different driving experiences.

And no....BMW really is The Ultimate Driving Machine because they consistently offers class leading handling that is beautifully balanced with the ride quality, plenty of acceleration to either get in to trouble or stay out of it depending on your level of maturity, room for friends, the latest passive safety features, nice size trunks and loads of features such as the current offerings of Sirius, Bluetooth, GPS Nav etc.....


Bangle...well some like the designs implemented under his direction some don't. Just subjective so no use arguing the point.

Reliability....there are horror stories on every forum for every car brand and model ever made, but my experience with BMW's has been great and I have owned 6 in the past 13 years. By the way my 987S has been in for niggling repairs twice in under 3500 miles and I'm still using my sunglasses temple piece to adjust the broken vent sliders....yes...all four are broken.

iDrive.....seems to me the only people that don't love it are those that test drive vehicles for a living and don't spend any real "quality" time with it. After three days with my 545i I found iDrive to be extremely useful in accessing sub systems etc...without having a million buttons on the dash.

For example....my old E39 525i never got cold enough on the floorboards and so my feet were always hot driving home in the summer. 545i with iDrive? Just access Vent Settings and crank up the floor vents...brilliant!

Spot on , i live near Brecon so i have some good roads to rip around.

Two of the chaps who came along to that little meet were both ex Porsche owners who needed more space and wanted to keep similar performance. They are both currently driving new M3's

Totally different cars, but I'd gladly trade in the 545 for a porsche. Sadly though, 90-100K for a decently optioned 997s is still a bit much.

Not too sure what you've seen or read, but, the GT will not keep up with the Enzo or the Mclaren. So, based on sheer performance, the GT is not the best (and it also looks like a Toyota MR2). The Enzo hits the 1/4 mile @ 11.0 (133.9 mph) while the GT hits the 1/4 mile @ 11.1 (133.4 mph) and top speeds of 211.0 for the Enzo and 201.5 for the GT. What's even scarier is the Mclaren (which IS a true production car) will smoke the Enzo. Put it this way...the Mclaren goes from 0 to 100 to 0 in 11.5 seconds. I guess at this level, the word "best" is subjective but the numbers don't lie.
